Southlake is a city in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 8,819 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Worth–Arlington metropolitan area. In 1870s cotton gin operations were started by white men to process slaves for local market demand; these mills closed around 1920 due to competition from new mechanization projects in nearby Arlington and Dallas. Southlake is a small town in Texas, located about 25 miles northwest of Austin. Southlake was founded in 1887 by Judge John W. Carpenter and his wife, Sarah Jane.
