South Houston, TX is a small city in the U.S. state of Texas located on the Gulf of Mexico just south of Austin. With a population of just over 100,000 as of 2010, South Houston is the second-smallest city in Texas after Austin. The area that now makes up South Houston was first settled by Texans in 1836 and became an incorporated town in 1868. Higgins (2013-present). Today, we continue to receive donations from individuals all across America that help us provide better service to our citizens. In 2013 alone, we received gifts totaling $1 million dollars! These donations help us purchase new equipment, purchase assets such as boats and helicopters, or provide scholarships for our maritime students. South Houston, Texas is a city located in Harris County, Texas. The population was 453,811 as of the 2010 census. It is the most populous municipality in Harris County and one of the fastest-growing cities in America. South Houston has been home to some of the first white settlers in what is now Texas and has had a significant impact on its current culture. The area that would become South Houston was first populated by the Caddo people. The Caddoes were forced out of their land by the European colonists in 1836 and retreated to what is now Polk County, Arkansas. In 1837, James Lubbock founded a small settlement on an Iberian island near present day Clear Lake after finding it abandoned by other settlers. After Lubbock's death, his son John acquired additional land around Clear Lake and began trading with Native Americans for goods such as horses and beads. In 1839, John Lubbock's grandson Brigham Young purchased 3/4 acre (2 km²) of land at Spring Bayou from David Starr Jordan for $5 per acre (1/2 km²). This purchase marked the beginning of what would become South Houston proper. In 1840, John Waco founded Fort Worth on Main Street within present-day downtown Dallas while waiting for permission from Ulysses S Grant to build a fortress larger than anything then existing in Texas. Grants approval arrived two years later when Waco attacked Grant's forces during an attempted crossing of Red River Gorge at Palo Alto Hill outside Austinville; both men were killed in engagements leading up to this event. By 1846, all but 2 percent of Texans lived within five miles (8 km) of Dallas or Fort Worth -Houston remained about two-thirds that size-. Development continued rapidly throughout this period due to railroad construction which connected different parts ofTexas quickly with one another via roadways and railroads-. Railroad development increased traffic alongtx highways which led to increasing prices for farmland northward,.
