In 1929, Jules D’Angelo formed the American Legion Post 938 with many of its members from Socorro joining him. This group donated shotguns to be used by Legionnaires during World War II. Later on, the post evolved into an NRA affiliate known as “The Joeys” which functioned as a rifle range and pistol range respectively from 1951-1975 inclusive across several locations including downtown Socorrono before moving to its current location on US 281 near FM 14097 around 1975-2016 inclusive! During this time period there were also sporadic shootings taking place throughout town but they weren’t typically reported or investigated because such events were viewed as minor league compared to more high profile incidents like robberies or automobile accidents that would result in more media attention given their seriousness at the time (and still are). Consequently, most firearms historians date these shootings only back up to 1945 when ATF registration records show that new handgun registrations begin being accepted here! Thus far though there have only been 2 documented shootings here since then – both of which took place within 5 years of each other! In 1915 two Apache Indians led by Chief John Milton attacked SocorRO whomever they believed was responsible for killing their kinfolk near Fort Sumter on April 14th . Most residents were killed or captured including children who had been taken into captivity along with their parents/guardians . Only an old schoolhouse remains standing today testament to how dangerous this situation could have been for both sides involved .....

In 1868, a school was established in Socorro and remained open until 1944. In 1904, the railroad arrived to Socorro and served as an important factor in its growth. By 1920, the population of Socorro had reached 681 residents. By 1930, the population had increased to 1,142 residents. From 1940-1951, during World War II, Socorronians participated in many campaigns including those against Japanese forces throughout the Southwest United States. On November 16th of that year they helped form what is now known as braided wire booby nets used by Navy blue squadron pilots during operations over Iwo Jima
