Socorro (Spanish for "Sorrow") is a town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,857 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Midland-Odessa Metropolitan Statistical Area. Socorro is located on the banks of the Brazos River, southwest ofMidland and east of Odessa. The site where Socorro now stands was once a small community called Los Angeles. It was founded by Anglo-Mexican settlers in 1836 when they arrived from Monterrey, Mexico to take up land that had been given to them by Spanish colonists. In 1868, when Hudspeth County was created, Los Angeles became its first incorporated municipality. In 1885, Socorro's post office was moved from its old location on Main Street to what is now First Avenue South and Third Street East. That year also saw the opening of what would become one of the most famous stores in town - The Post Office Store - which still stands today and offers a wide variety of merchandise including groceries and general store items as well as novelty items such as hats and dolls. In 1907, following passage of an act providing for certain benefits for citizens who contributed money towards building a new courthouse complex south of town, The Post Office Store donated land on which it built itself an addition that still stands today – adding another layer to its long history as a social center in Socorro. In 1924 local entrepreneur Addison Waddington opened The Cotton Exchange - one of only two black-owned businesses in Texas during those years - within walking distance of downtown SocorROlle Woods Elementary School (now known as Stoneman Middle School). Over time this business grew into one of the city's largest wholesale distributors handling everything from candy to clothes until it finally went out OF BUSINESS IN 2008 but has since been reborn as One Stop Solutions Inc., providing countywide services such as property management and legal help with programs likeAsset Management or deed restriction sales etc.. A fire destroyed much property around downtown early Sunday morning November 15th 1906; however no loss resulted from this event because all stocks were insured by mutual funds prior to their occurrence ..... At least five people lost their lives during that night’s tragedy: three firefighters killed instantly trying to put out the blaze; one man who drowned after being pulled out knee deep water while endeavoring to save his home; two women who perished when their home caught fire; four children who were able to escape unhurt although several adults died inside..... socorro tx Historic marker

The town of Socorro, Texas (population: 27,000) is located in the far north-central corner of the state of Texas. Situated on the banks of the Rio Grande, it was founded in 1878 by Anglo-Mexican settlers who had Emigrated from San Antonio de Bexar County, Texas. The name “Socorro” means “salt water fortress” and this is how its residents originally defended themselves against Native Americans who were raiding their properties. The fortifications were built over a period of several years and served as a defense against Native American attacks for many years. Today, Socorro remains an important center for commerce and trade within the region. It is also home to one of the largest Hispanic populations in Texas. The town has experienced a number of surges in population over the years due to both natural disasters such as hurricanes and various factors such as annexation by other states or changes in government policy which have led to new economic opportunities for locals. In recent decades, Socorro has been called upon to play a more active role in local politics than it did before when its status as a small farming community was more pronounced.

Socorro, Texas is located in the United States of America and is part of the Mexican state of Baja California. As a result, Socorro has a long and diverse history that can be traced back to the Pre-Hispanic period. The area that makes up today's Socorro County was originally inhabited by the Chumash people, who were known for their fishing and hunting skills. In 1821, when Mexico won its independence from Spain, it created its own government called the Republic of Baja California. This new government included Socorro County as one of its areas. The region was very sparsely populated at this time, so there wasn't much opportunity for development. However, in 1835, Spanish explorers discovered what would become Baja California and began to explore it. They found an area called Los Pinos which they thought might be rich in gold or other minerals. The Spanish colonists started to arrive in large numbers in this area and began to build settlements. One such settlement was San Francisco de la Ribera which became known as Socorro after Saint Francis Xavier founded it in 1796. By 1840, there were more than 30 Spanish villages established throughout Baja California; most of these were on the banks of the River Tehuantepec (Tehuanaco). It wasn't until 1862 that Mexico realized that it had lost control over Baja California and decided to regain it by creating a new government called La Reunion with Socorro as one of its areas. This new government didn't have any power over the Mexican states inside Baja California but did have authority over Socorro County; therefore, all activities within this county were controlled by La Reunion authorities until 1898 when Mexico regained full control over Baja California once again!
