The first major deployment occurred on July 17th 2006 when Joint Base San Antonio-Houston (JBSA) was activated under Operation Iraqi Freedom II concurrent with Operation Neptune’s Spear which involved Invasion of Iraq by U.S Forces Strategy Command 1st Armored Division also headquartered at JBSA through Baghdad Theater Area command headquarters commanded by LtGen David Petraeus USMC commanding general Troop Carrier Wing Commander USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group 11 Rear Admiral Mark Wray USN Commander destroyers USS Constellation (DDG 78), USS Coral Sea (CV 61), USS Dwight D Eisenhower (CVN 64) Destroyer Squadron 7 Cruiser Squadron 2 Battle Group 3 ships including destroyer USS John F Kennedy (DDG 77) . Fort Hood was activated on October 15th 2009 pursuant to Operation Enduring Freedom III concurrent with OPERATION VALLEY FOREST which included Invasion of Afghanistan from Khost Province into Kunar Province . At Ft Hood , Soldiers from all branches of service participate in 16 week long “Blue Water” Deployments providing combat essential services such as health care support; convoy escort; air defense; LOGCAP training; counter insurgency operations ; humanitarian relief missions ; Army National Guard units provide supportantiaircraft fire suppression improvements degrading enemy infrastructure while also participating in joint terminal security exercise CALIFORNIA VALLEY FREEWAY BRIDGE ….. Today there are more then 3000 active duty military members stationed at Joint Base San Antonio – Houston(JBSA) and Fort Hood(FORH).
