Seguin, Texas is a town located in the U.S. state of Texas, about 26 miles (41 km) east of Austin and 5 miles (8 km) northwest of Midland. As of the 2010 census, the population was 8,571. The name "Seguin" is from Spanish meaning "place where two rivers meet." Seguin is site of one of the earliest Recorded US Towns in 1827 when James Kenedy built a cabin on what is now Elm Street. In 1836, Seguin became part of the Mexican Land grant to Antonio López de Santa Anna and his family. The first post office in Texas was established at Seguin on July 4, 1836 by Captain John Cordero. In 1840, Seguin's first school opened under leadership by Reverend David Starr White; it served as a Methodist primary school until 1888 when it became an all-girls high school known as Highland College School for Girls. From 1865 to 1905 it served as the seat for Tarrant County Seat and then moved to its present location in 1909 following passage of Republic Act No. 102 which enlarged Tarrant County by adding Big Bend Ranch southward to its boundaries The original settlers who founded Seguin were Anglo-Saxon farmers who arrived from England around 1795 along with their families and other immigrants during the Mexican Revolution including José Narváez y Zúñiga and Pedro De la Garza y Castro who both fought against Spanish rule on Texan soil before eventually fleeing across the Rio Grande into Mexico City where they prospered commercially as merchants and political leaders . After independence was declared in 1861 most Anglo-Saxon farmers left or were forced out by Confederate forces occupying Texas while others such as José Narváez y Zúñiga continued their struggle against Spanish rule but ultimately lost all their land to ill-gotten gains made through land speculation . Consequently , many Anglo Saxon descendants still live in nearby Midland today although overall numbers have dwindled over time due largely to waves of immigration from surrounding countries such as Japan , Korea , Philippines etc which have displaced Anglo Saxon culture more than replacement . Today there are only a few scattered Anglo Saxon families remaining throughout central Texas During World War II many men enlisted with local blacksmiths forming volunteer infantry companies serving alongside white American troops using names like Black Knights #1 & 2 & 3 formed at Lone Star smelting works near Waco TX ; later these units evolved into segregated racially segregated military units known officially within military circles as "The Alamo Scouts" With integration starting early after World War II most African Americans left educationally credentialed professionals jobs behind them preferring instead open-ended service opportunities available through Army veteran programs ; however significant number remain technical experts & Scientists working side-by-side with whites within various industries throughout metropolitan Dallas area currently termed "DallasTech" TodaySeGUIN remains an economically vibrant city WITH A NUMBER OF INTERESTING INDUSTRIES LOCATED THERE INCLUDING TECHNICAL EXPERTS & SCIENTISTS WORKING SIDE BY SIDE WITH WACO THE ALAMO SCOUTZ

The town's first school opened in 1909 and remained open until 1978 when it burned down. A new school was built and opened in 2001. In 2006,Seaguin became home to the world's second-largest artificial kidney transplant patient center when transplanted kidneys from two patients were joined together at a hospital near Dallas.
