Marines provide security for our coasts and airports, they help in the search for terrorists, and they even fight in some of the biggest battles on earth. Marines are always ready to serve their country no matter what happens.
The Marine unit deployed in Seguin, Texas as part of the United States Armed Forces in World War II was the 1st Battalion, 9th Marines. The battalion arrived in Seguin on December 8, 1941 and became part of the 2nd Marine Division. It fought throughout the war and received multiple awards including the Presidential Unit Citation for its actions at Guadalcanal. The battalion withdrew from combat on September 14, 1945 and returned to Camp Pendleton, California.

Seguin is a small town in Lubbock County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Amarillo- Odessa-Lubbock Metropolitan Statistical Area. Seguin was founded by German immigrants in 1881 as a small agricultural community named "Goldschmidt". The name "Seguin" originates from the Mescalero Apache chief's phrase "I will go to Seguin and trade with the white man." The town was platted in 1882 and named after General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, who had helped lead Mexico during its war for independence from Spain. At first, Seguin employed only Mexican workers to do basic construction work on local farms; but as word got out about the great opportunities available in America, more Germans began to arrive and settle here. By 1907, Seguin had become home to over 2,000 people and boasted two churches (the First Baptist Church and Christ Episcopal Church), two stores/depots/a post office/railroad depot (the James W. Webb Depot), four schools (grades one through twelve), three hotels/motels (the Amistad Hotel & Motel; the Holiday Inn Express; and the Ritz-Carlton Hotel & Casino), six grocery stores/bakery shops/flour mills/, a printing press/, an opera house/, three movie theaters/, two freight yards/, and several businesses catering to both local residents and travelers. As rural communities grew larger throughout America during World War II, so too did Seguin's economy. With production shifted inland to support military bases located in northern Texas including Beaumont-Port Arthur-Wichita Falls, Selma-Montgomery County - now Houston - Seguin became known as "The Hub of Hard Times." However, hard times quickly passed when American manufacturing returned to prewar levels in 1945 thanks in large part to new federal subsidies that were created following World War II called The New Deal. In 1948Selected growth areas within easy driving distance of downtown segued into what has come to be known as Downtown SEGUIN or simply DTX for short because all other growth districts have since been absorbed into it or annexed by it without having their own downtown designation... still there are many successful businesses scattered throughout much of unincorporated Lubbock County taking advantage of excellent transportation access including IHOP restaurants+, gas stations+, Sam’s Club warehouses+, FedEx dropoffs+ ground shipping*, etc., making DTX an excellent place for shopping whether you’re looking for high end items or everyday essentials such as groceries* or tires*. * Note: Some chains no longer offer free delivery within city limits
In 1836, the Republic of Texas was founded by Sam Houston and a group of Texans. The area that is now Seguin was part of this fledgling state. In 1837, construction began on the first fort in what is now Seguin. This fort served as a base for Fort Worth during the Mexican-American War and later became known as Fort Stockton. In 1846, Texas gained its independence from Mexico and became an independent republic. On January 6, 1847, President James K. Polk announced to the American people that Texas would become a slave state if it voted in favor of becoming a United States state. This announcement outraged many Texans who saw themselves as being EQUAL with all other Americans! On January 16th,1848, the House of Representatives passed a bill which allowed slavery in Texas if it were ratified by the US Senate! The vote was not successful and on February 3rd,1848 Texas seceded from the Union! The initial settler population in what is now Seguin consisted mostly of Anglo-Saxon Protestants who had come to ranching country around here since before Texan independence occurred. As cotton became more important crops here than cattle raising (due to favorable soil conditions), African slaves were imported for work on plantations near Abilene beginning in about 1840s (the first black workers arrived shortly after). Slavery ended inTexas with passage of an Act to that effect on December 12th 1865 by Govt.(3) The area around present day Seguin date back to at least 1796 when Methodist minister John Caulfield donated land for Presbyterian church building purposes; however no permanent buildings were erected until 1800 when Reverend David Gentry purchased land east of Slaughter Creek from Captain Billy Trimble for $5 per acre ($160 total). From 1800-1810 Gentry platted out three sections including parts lying south/northwest of present day Seguin: Section 10 extending along Slaughter Creek eastward to Mockingbird Creek and Sections 11 & 12 extending northwest/southeast along Mockingbird Creek northward to current day Abilene Springs Road; these sections are generally considered boundaries between today's portions of Seguin County - Sections 10 & 11 lay just west/southwestof Slaughter Creek where town boundaries have been established while Sections 12 & 13 extend easterly/westerly beyond present creek bed into modern day Hendricks County . However some consider certain areas within today's SEGuIN COUNTY INCLUDINGsections 10A&10Bto be part of section 11
