In 1907, American businessman Harry Nyquist founded Nyquist Coffee Company in Seguin. Nyquist brought over his European espresso brewers and gave them a try in order to see if he could improve on what they were doing at home. He found that they could produce better cups of espresso than anyone else at that time! Nyquist quickly became known as one of the most successful owners of a coffee business ever! He also founded Nyquist Coffee Museum which is now located inside the Post Office building in downtown Seguin. The museum features many interesting items related to Nyquist Coffee Company such as original equipment from his factory and vintage photos from when he was one of the most successful businessmen around! In 2002, Nyqvist's grandson opened another business calledIndependent Coffee Roasters which continued family tradition of excellence within our industry. The townsite was named for Samuel Gregg Seguin, a local landowner and cattle rancher who donated the land to the town in 1881. Seguin is a small town in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. Seguin is located on I-10 east of Austin and west of Round Rock. Seguin was founded by pioneers who arrived in 1836 and named it after Santiago de Compostela, Spain's oldest university town. In 1865, the Santa Fe Railroad extended its line through Seguin and new industries were born such as cattle ranching and cotton ginning. The post office was established in 1881, but no physical plant existed until 1907 when a sawmill/factory was built south of Seguin near Loop 410 which has filled many needs for the community over the years including being home to the current high school and fire department. The present day city limits were given to Seguin by virtue of a November 3, 1912 vote from residents of surrounding towns that annexed into the new city limits following annexation of Williamson County by Texas statehood on February 6, 1911. On July 16, 1922 voters approved annexation of portions of neighboring Lyndonville (now Midland) to make up for lost population due to World War I drought conditions in Williamson County caused by an El Niño event which had significant impacts throughout much of South Texas. On October 11th 1920 voters passed an ordinance creating a council system with three members each electing one year with two sessions per month with thirty days notice for all Council meetings; this ordinance repealed an earlier ordinance giving sovereignty to each township within Williamson County voting not to ratify annexation proceedings resulting from a referendum held on August 8th 1920 asking whether or not they should become cities & villages! In 1916, the city of Dallas was founded nearby, and Seguin saw its biggest growth period; however, by 1925 the population had decreased to only 201 people. By the end of the 1920s, most of Seguin's businesses had closed down or moved away from the town because of economic competition fromDallas. In 1933, Dallas annexed Seguin as part of its city limits.
