The Coast Guard Gift History in Seguin, Texas began in 1931 when the Seguin Volunteer Fire Department (now the City of Seguin) donated two Sikorsky S-2s to the Coast Guard. These helicopters were used for anti-aircraft and search and rescue operations along the Texas coast. Seguin, Texas is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas. The population was 2,836 at the 2000 census. Seguin is known for its cattle ranching and farming businesses. It also has a small amount of manufacturing activity. The first settlers in the area were German immigrants who arrived in 1845. The name "Seguin" was derived from the Spanish word "seguro". In 1865, The Republic of Texas purchased 1,400 acres of land from the Slinger family and named it Seguin after them. By 1886, there were more than 100 families living in Seguin. In 1898, Seguin became an independent municipality with its own government and school board. On September 15th of that year, President McKinley signed into law the Organic Act No. 108 which granted municipalities such as Seguin local autonomy within Hudspeth County by creating municipal governments with their own police forces and fire departments without having to comply with state laws regarding property values or education rates for rural residents. In 1969-1970, two groups of men went door to door inSeGUIN asking for money to help fund student protests against South Vietnam's military presence on American soil during the Vietnam War (the Tet Offensive). One group had written requests to various businesses including Sears Roebuck & Co., Ford Motor Company and Pepsi Cola among others; but no one responded because they didn't think it would be related to their company's policy not to donate money to any political campaigns or organizations that might conflict with their corporate beliefs about peace and profit over war (although some people did respond out of curiosity). Eventually these groups realized they needed more signatures before getting permits from city hall so they set up a sign-up sheet at local grocery stores throughout town bearing different materials such as pictures of angry Vietnamese soldiers holding rifles while screaming "Give us Back Our Land!" After getting enough signatures they got permission from city hall to put up signs reading "We Don't Want Your Taxes! We're Against Communism!" However this failed miserably because most people didn't know what communism was either and thought it meant something different like social welfare programs or increased taxes on oil production etc.. So they replaced it with just "Don't Take Our Land!" but same message still being displayed throughout town In 1984-1985 fourteen-year old Juanita Parks was killed when her car was shot out from under her by three teenage boys walking down a road near where she lived in neighboring Vernon County when she refused to give them money for cigarettes as part of her vendetta against them following her father's death two years earlier due To lung cancer. Park had been a vocal advocate for change within Vernon County since she began working as district director for Texans For Education Reform back in 1978 after leading countywide antiwar rallies that drew tens of thousands of citizens together across twelve counties during Spring Break 1985.) Park's death caught national attention culminating in nationwide demonstrations calling for justice outside Ulysses S Grant Presidential Library & Museum starting on May 5th 1985 until finally achieving results upon his funeral on July 10th 1985 after monthslong organizing by volunteer attorneys assigned by then Governor Edwin Edwards .) The violence associated with Mexican drug cartels operating northward through Hudspeth County has led some residents fearlessly denouncing cartel members engaging indiscriminately in retaliatory violence against innocent civilians even if those civilians are simply suspected or accused thereof... Most recently this month (January 8th) Menendez brothers opened fire on innocents bystander shopping at Walmart Center parking lot northwest side San Antonio TX injuring five innocent victims before apprehending them using only thermal imaging camera technology resulting successfully endangering both lives & firearms acquisition abilities among many other factors impeding prosecution ). This latest attack coming barely days after another incident where cousins shooting 3 people dead inside home prior Arrests ) further underscores whyResidents should never forget our history lesson 7/10/85)
