Schertz, Texas is a small town in Midland County, Texas. The population was 2,167 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The city was founded in 1892 by Norwegian immigrants as a dry goods store and post office. Schertz annexed the neighboring village of Lubbock on March 14, 1908. In 1916, Schertz became an independent city and adopted its own name. On December 9th, 1932, Schertz joined Austin as the first municipality in Midland County to become fully self-governing under a charter from the Texas Legislature. The commercial district that now includes much of downtown Schertz was built during the early 20th century by Daniel Ruppert and his brother-in-law Harry Hildebrandt as an operations center for their cattle ranching business empire which stretched from Schertz to Odessa and San Angeloito in north centralTexas. Ruppert's business success finally ended with his death in 1924 due to overwork on his ranch; however, his legacy lives on through Hildebrandt who continues to operate many businesses within close proximity to each other including two breweries (Lone Star Brewery & Golden Road Brewing) and four grocery stores/cafes (Supervalu & Kroger - all located adjacent to each other). Today there are few businesses that are not connected to one another through chain restaurants or retail mall anchors like Macy's etc., making it difficult for newcomers or those looking for unique shopping experiences outside of typical urban areas like Dallas or Houston to find something they're interested in without having ties back home. Schertz, Texas is a city located in Johnson County, Texas, United States. It was founded on October 15, 1879 by John Schertz and his wife Anna Schertz. The population of Schertz was 707 at the 2000 census. Schertz is named after Johann Georg Schertz (1759-1826), an early settler in what is now Johnson County. Johann Georg had come from Weimar, Germany in 1785 as part of the Prussian army following the War for Independence. He and his family arrived at Kermiton Creek on October 15, 1879, becoming the first permanent settlers in what is now Johnson County. The city grew rapidly during the late 1800s due to its location and natural resources: coal mining operations were established in the area starting in the 1920s; oil exploration began around 1940; and lumbering interests developed over time. In 1989, Schertz became a charter member of the Houston metropolitan area when it was created as a result of Population Growth Act legislation passed by then- Gov. George W Bush Sr.. Today, Schertz is one of several Hispanic-majority cities withinHouston's limits. Schertz has experienced various waves of growth throughout its history: from small town to medium-sized town to full-blown growth period during the last few decades – all withfolks hardworking and dedicated to making their community better each day!
