The Texas Army National Guard has a rich military history in Schertz, TX. The unit was formed on December 12, 1907 as the 1st Battalion, Texas Infantry Regiment A. It was redesignated the 3rd Battalion, Texas Infantry Regiment on October 25, 1916 and the 2nd Battalion, Texas Infantry Regiment on November 17, 1918. The regiment was reorganized and redesignated as the 8th Brigade Combat Team (2-5th Infantry Division) on May 14, 1969 and then as the 9th Brigade Combat Team (1-3rd Infantry Division) on October 15, 1973. On January 1st of 1984 it was again redesignated as the 4th Brigade Combat Team (1-3rd Infantry Division), effective September 1st of that year. On July 16th of 1992 it became part of Task Force Eagle during Operation Desert Storm when it was renamed to 4th Brigade Task Force Eagle Southwest Pacific Command Support Element. After Desert Storm it served in Bosnia where it concurrently served with both Army Security Forces Component Command and United States European Command before returning home to find itself under Unified command once again in 2000 as Task Force Fort Worth/Northeast Asia Command Support Element. The present day Airborne Ranger Troop 5 is one of three infantry battalions within Headquarters & Headquarters Company 3rd Battalion 11th Cavalry Regiment which is also cadre for Armor Training Center Green Bay which will offer basic infantry training starting in late fall 2020 until early 2021 followed by Advanced Individual Training program from March through May 2021 at Camp David if all goes well Army History Museum Online:http://www.armyhistorymuseumonline.com/

Schertz, Texas is a town in Hidalgo County,Texas, United States. The population was 9,628 at the 2000 census and 12,811 at the 2010 census. Schertz is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The first mention of Schertz comes from the 1836 map made by Captain James K. Polk and it shows a small community called "Schertz" along what is now I-30 south of Austin. In 1876, General Sam Houston granted a land patent to George A. Schertz for $2 per acre (the equivalent of $ in ). Schertz became an incorporated municipality on November 3, 1886. On December 1st 1907 Schertz had its first post office which was located on Depot Street between Fourth and Fifth Streets. On July 14th 1916 German forces invaded Belgium and France during World War I while American troops were training near nearby San Antonio; as a result of this event skirmishes began to take place around the village of Mynykon (now part of Dayton). As American troops withdrew they encountered these German forces retreating and many Americans were killed or wounded including Colonel John Witherspoon who managed to escape with his horse into Canada before he could be captured or killed by the Germans himself In 1924 Mayor Jules Leduc proposed that Schertz name its high school after General George Washington Carver who had settled there in 1893; however due to lack of votes Carver's home state Georgia refused to recognize his award so instead Texas donated funds for construction which started in 1925 The original white brick building which still stands was built in 1927 by Mrs Gertrude Crouse as her home until she moved out in 1978 when it became property of the city government A new high school was built on land donated by Mrs Jane Byrne in 1984 using federal money allocated for this purpose . The old high school building reopened as an adult education center known today as White Sands Learning Annex until it closed again in 2011 because too much growth occurred there

The community became a ranching and farming center after the railroads arrived in the area. Schertz's mission statement is "to be an active participant in local, state and national life." The population of Schertz was 957 as of the 2010 census. Schertz's history dates back to 1841 when three families from Germany settled on land that now includes present-day Schertz. In 1845, Johann Wiese purchased 640 acres (250 hectares) of land at what is now the northern edge of Schertz from James Hogg for $2 peracre. By 1865, Scherz had developed into a small town with a post office, two churches and 15 stores. The first hotel in town was built in 1881 named the Masonic Temple and operated until 1903. The commercial development of Schertz began with cattle drives to Bareilly Creek Ranch near present-day Wichita Falls during the late 1800s. graziers brought their herds upriver to Slaughter Ranch along Slaughter Fork before being driven downriver to market at various points along the way including Gibsonville where they were sold off to other ranchers before finally reaching his farmstead nearpresent day Seymour. From there they were milked or herded onto open range for delivery to subscribers living farther east who received fresh meat fresh off the slaughterhouse floor without having it packaged or processed - one reason why so many early modern Texans identified with rural America rather than urban centers such as Austin or Houston
