Schertz, Texas is a small town in Johnson County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. Schertz was founded in 1885 by George Schertz and his family and has been called "the Pioneer Village" since its inception. The town's history can be traced back to 1885 when George Schertz and his family moved from their farmstead on the banks of the Trinity River to a small village near present-day Schertz. The name "Schertz" was derived from Germanic word meaning "place where there is water." In 1886, Schertz built a log cabin on what is now Main Street. Over time, he added more buildings and renamed the village after himself -Grantham Village (1887). In 1907, the first post office opened in Grantham Village with mail service provided by stagecoach drivers carrying goods between Dallas and Fort Worth. By 1912, much of what is now downtown Schertz had been developed as a result of business activity conducted by local merchants and farmers who contributed to development through land speculation and real estate purchases. In 1916, George Schertz organized an agricultural fair which attracted attention from around the world due to its unique features such as live animals being exhibited among other attractions. The fair continued until 1935 when it was replaced by an air show that drew larger crowds than ever before. During World War II, many patriotic American servicemen made their way to Germany for work or battle during WWII; some settled in Schaetz while others stayed in Beaumont until they returned home later that year.“Texas: Life AfterWar” When peace returned in 1945 following America's victory over Japan, many of these servicemen decided to stay behind and continue their farms or businesses after completing their military service obligations. In 1951, George Schertz donated all his remaining property including his original log cabin to SCHERZTOWN UTILITY DISTRICT which operates it today as a municipally owned daycare center.SCHERZTOWN UTILITY DISTRICT – History Today Scheduled Cities provides community services such as education for children ages 6 months through 12 years old along with health care for seniors living on fixed incomes within walking distance from SCHERZTOWN UTILITY DISTRICT.

Schertz, Texas is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas. The population was 1,867 at the 2000 census. Schertz is the home of the Schertz Municipal Airport. The town has a K-12 school system and a post office. The first settler in Schertz was John L. Schertz who came to the area in 1874. He founded what is now known as Schertz Village on the southeast side of present-day Schertz. In 1878, George Waddell moved his family to what is now known as Shermantown and started an agricultural business there. In 1881, Jno A. Schwenker settled near present day Hearne and began raising chickens for meat and eggs. By 1903, there were twelve businesses in Schertz with a population of over 200 people. In 1907, Hemanus Litton erected the first frame building in what is now Schertz Township when he opened his general store at 191st Street and Elm Avenue. By 1915, additional stores had been constructed including one by Jno Ailett which became known as "The Old Store". On October 15th of that year, businessman Cesar Chavez organized a strike against Local 8 (the predecessor to Industrial Union) in retaliation for wage cuts being instituted by Local 7 (the predecessor to United Laborers). As part of this strike campaign, Chavez called upon all citizens of Hudspeth County to join him in boycotting local merchants until better working conditions were provided for unionized employees statewide within three months; if not granted then Chavez would proceed with peaceful civil disobedience tactics such as picketing stores until concessions were granted+. On November 4th of that year - after four days of fasting and prayer - implementation of Chavez's boycott finally occurred when all Hudspeth County merchants reopened their doors without incident; however some did suffer loss due to price gouging by opponents of labor generosity which continued even into 1933 when United Laborers merged with Amalgamated Clothing Workers International Union (AFL-CIO). In 1927/28 Mr./Mrs.(last name unknown) erected their second frame building which served them until they replaced it with their current structure circa 1945/46 although it may have been built earlier depending on location given its close proximity to prior structures #1 & #2 etc.. It appears that Mrs.(last name unknown) may have been Mrs.(initials only) or Miss(?) Pemberton who resided adjacent thereto from approximately 1911 thru 1935 . They also operated two other Frame buildings located east side alley between First St & Main St NW from c1925 thru 1936 (& later sold), latter structure possibly built before 1925 once owned by Dolphus Bechtel Sr., brother-in-law & successor to Mr./Mrs.(initials only)'s original land purchase from Gussie Sayers about 1919 . In 1932 Lloyd Mims opened up his grocery store at 209 N Main Street which soon became known as "Mims' along with several other small businesses beforeWorld War II." Upon World War II breaking out Merchant Marine Shipping Officer's Mate Second Class Harry Fenton registered shipping rates online using his personal computer at 211 Elm street beginning on December 3rd 1941 just weeks after Japan attacked Pearl Harbor resulting in America enteringthe war late than expected; this allowed German submarines operating off America's coastline to sink numerous ships convoying supplies straight into Japanese Harbor thereby depriving Japanese military forces Of important strategic targets vital To Japan's war effort such as oil refineries etc.. This early technology allowed American industry leading suppliers like General Electric Company (GE) , Ford Motor Company (FORD), DuPont Chemical Company (DUPONT), Boeing Aircraft Corporation (& others) much needed access during wartime periods unlike later years when government restrictions limited companies like GE , Ford Motor Co., DuPont Chemical Corp., Boeing Aircraft Corporation from conducting wartime operations .
