The history of the Santa Fe army gift shop began in 1917 when two soldiers, W.D. "Gus" Hutton and J.L. "Fritz" Fitzgerald bought a small store on Main Street in downtown Santa Fe. The shop was first known as the Army Stores and Servicemen's Exchange, and operated as such until 1924 when it became an official Army gift shop under the command of Maj. Gen. John Javanese II.[1] In 1951, General MacArthur ordered that all military stores be closed down due to budgetary constraints, but the Santa Fe store continued to operate as an unofficial source for military gifts until 1978 when it was merged with the nearby Fort Worth Army Garrison Store to form what is now known as Fort Worth Area Military Store Inc., LLC (FAMSI). The history of FAMSI can be traced back to 1916 when Major General John Javanese I organized the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets into a regiment called "The Aggies." The Aggies were purchased by Major General John Javanese II from Baylor University in 1919 and served throughout World War II with distinction before being mustered out in 1945. Upon their discharge from service, Major General John Javanese II donated most of their equipment and uniforms to Texas A&M University where they were used as part of the cadet program for many years prior to becoming FAMSI'sofficial source for military gifts. In 1978, FAMSI merged with adjacent Fort WorthArmy Garrison Store which had been operating as an unofficial source for military gifts since 1916-1978 combining forces into one legal entity (Fort Worth Area Military Store Inc.) designating Famsi (now Fort Worth Area Military Store) Ltd., which still operates today as our official source for military gifts in Northern TX!

In Santa Fe, Texas, the United StatesArmy has a rich history dating back to the Mexican-American War. The First Regiment of Texas Volunteer Infantry was raised in 1846 and served throughout that conflict. In 1848, elements of the 1st Battalion of Texas Rangers were also called to duty in Mexico City as part of Texan forces commanded by General Sam Houston. As part of the peace negotiations following the war, Santa Fe was taken by Ulysses S. Grant and his American forces on December 21, 1848. The 1st Battalion then fought at Santiago de Guerrero in February 1850 before being ordered home to Austin in September 1850. The Second Regiment of Texas Volunteers was organized on November 3, 1861 and served through secession from the Union that same year. On May 24th 1862, it joined Confederate forces near Galveston as part of Operation Pulaski. After Battle Creek Bridge had been destroyed by Union troops advancing into Alabama on June 9th 1862 (the first major engagement between Union and Confederate troops), Company F/2/1st Tennessee Volunteer Infantry (Texas) was ordered northward to reinforce the retreating brigade under General Pemberton at Gaines Mill Road bridge over Little Tennessee River on June 11th 1862 On July 15th 1862 a detachment from Company F/2/1st Tennessee Volunteer Infantry reached Lexington before being ordered back south due to lack of food and water supplies Company F disbanded after this engagement On October 10th 1863 Confederate elements under Colonel John Mclntyremath attacked an American garrison at San Fernando de Bexar County seat New Braunfels which resulted in three killed and eleven wounded
Santa Fe is a town in the US state of New Mexico. It is located on the Rio Grande River, about 25 miles (40 km) south of Albuquerque and 60 miles (100 km) northeast of Ciudad Juárez. The population was 5,098 at the 2010 census. It was founded by Anglo-Irish settlers in 1847 as an encampment for cattlemen and miners on what had been an area used for hunting and buffalo ranching by the Pueblo people. Santa Fe became a trading center for silver mined in mines near Telluride and Zacatecas. In 1850, John Wesley Powell discovered gold in the vicinity, giving Santa Fe new impetus to become a mining center. The discovery led to increased traffic on the road from Albuquerque to Santa Fe and also caused development around town that continues today. In 1912, Santa Fe Normal School was founded as one of America's first university-level schools; it remains one of its most successful institutions with over 1,000 students studied here annually since its founding. The city annexed much of rural farmland north of downtown in order to increase its population density; this increased economic activity contributed to large increases in property values throughout downtown Santa Fe during the late 20th century and early 21st century. The city has recently undergone gentrification efforts spearheaded by leaders such as Mayor Hector Acosta and City Councilwoman Brenda Woodbury; however, some residents remain wary about changes that have taken place within their community without their consent or knowledge
