The United States Armed Forces have been deploying gift history in San Marcos, Texas for over seventy years. The tradition of giving gifts to soldiers and their families dates back to the Mexican-American War. Soldiers and their families would bring back items they had collected during the war, such as artillery shells, buttons, and swords. These pieces of memorabilia were used to create a soldier's "collection." The collection was then passed down through the generations and displayed at military checkpoints or barracks. This custom began to spread beyond Mexico during World War II when troops found themselves fighting in Europe. The United States Army also started send gift history packages to servicemen in Japan and other countries. As technology improved, troops could now access information online or by mail. This gave servicemen a way to keep track of what was being sent home with them and make sure their loved ones received the best possible gifts. One of the earliest deployments of gift history was during Operation Desert Storm in 1991. Iraqi forces had invaded Kuwait and1991 saw one of the largest US military engagements in history. More than two million American troops were deployed across thirteen countries including San Marcos, Texas where Gift History Battalion 2 was activated on December 11th of that year as part of Task Force Ranger/Task Force Hammerhead III . During this engagement we collected more than fifty thousand pounds of donated goods from citizens throughout our community which helped support our troops as they fought against Saddam Hussein's regime

San Marcos is a small town in Harris County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,792 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The namesake of San Marcos is Mission San Marcos de Asís which was completed in 1836 and dedicated to Saint Joaquín y Parra. The name may be taken from Spanish for "old mission." The first permanent European settlers in what would become San Marcos were French traders and missionaries who arrived in 1795. They founded the Presidio of Monterey on an island near present-day downtown San Marcos. In 1825, Mexican forces under General José de Urrea landed on Santa Cruz Island to capture California and establish Mexico's new colony in what is now Baja California Sur. However, because there was no water source on Santa Cruz, the Mexicans built a irrigation system that became one of the largest and most efficient in North America. Colonel James Kenedy purchased land east of current-day downtown San Marcos from Juan Seguin in 1837 and started developing it as a cattle ranch called Rancho de las Flores (later known as Rancho Encinas). When Mexico ceded California to the United States as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo on January 8, 1848, American citizens took over all Mexican property east of Mason Road without compensation; this included Rancho Encinas which reverted back to Anglo hands followingMexicanAmerican Wars later that year. In 1850s two brothers named Josiah Warren (1810–1886)and John Swayne built homes along Main Street between Comal Springs Boulevard/US 290 and Villa Rica Avenue/FM 620 south of Market Street near today's University Park intersection; these were Phase 2 homes with gable roofs typical for early 19th century TX towns such as Dallas or Houston. It should be noted that much like today's houses located throughout Downtown Austin -Phase II homes were often said to have been architecturally more advanced than their predecessors due to advances made during Perry Bros.' reign as contractor for many local buildings including Travis County Courthouse -phase I & II homes did not generally meet modern code requirements for construction at that time especially when compared against contemporaneous buildings such as Mission Santa Clara de Asís or First Baptist Church located just north across US 290 from our house site today... Warren Bros./Swayne House still stands today withstood hurricane damage bysevere wind shear March 2017 (www.historicamericaonline.) In 1886 JosiahWarren died suddenly while outfitting his boat racing syndicate yacht Raceboat Bayou One Thousand Three Hundred fm 2205 Neches Rd #001 so his brother John took over running Raceboat Bayou which continued operations until late 2007 when it too succumbed to Hurricane Harvey damage.(www2Aasianspooner1@gmail dot com) By 1890 only about 40%of everyone living west Of Mason had moved into what would become san marcos although by 1900 less than 5%of people remained within 3 miles radius surrounding pioneer village

The city of San Marcos, Texas was founded in 1847 by Father Francisco Xavier Padilla. It became a part of the United States of America in 1848. The city experienced a growth period from the late 1800s until the early 1900s. The city’s economy was based on agriculture and ranching. In 1915, San Marcos became an enclave within Austin because of its annexation into the city. In 1936, Austin annexed San Marcos as well and the two cities operated as separate municipalities for about 30 years until their merger in 1995. During its time as a municipality, San Marcos had many significant events that have shaped its history. One such event occurred on November 15, 1916 when President Woodrow Wilson delivered his first speech in Dallas through then-Mayor Wirt Richardson. This speech helped to solidify Dallas’ status as a major center of American culture and politics during this period. Another important event that took place during this time was the creation of Travis County which housed San Marcos at its inception. This county would eventually be dissolved in 1930 due to population growth within Austin and Travis County itself becoming too large for both cities to manage effectively. San Marcos has also attracted attention from outside sources due to its unique cultural heritage and architecture dating back to the days when it was one of only a few towns within Texas with such an impressive collection of historical buildings. Many famous people have resided or worked in San Marcos including Texan author Will Rogers; Ulysses S Grant; actor Clint Eastwood; football coach Vince Lombardi; and author Ernest Hemingway among others
In 1836, San Marcos was the site of a battle between Mexican forces and American forces. The Battle of San Marcos resulted in the death of over 50 Mexican soldiers and American casualties were also high.
