Saginaw is a city in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area. In 1872, John Denton organized and bought land near Saginaw for $5 per acre (1/4 mile²). Denton named his new town after General Andrew Jackson – who had been mortally wounded at New Orleans during the American Civil War just four months earlier – but it did not take off as planned because few people wanted to move to what was then a small rural community with limited infrastructure and resources. In 1877, John Henry Taylor purchased 1/2 mile² (0.08 miles²) of land north of town from Denton for $10 per acre ($100 per hectare). This tract would become known as "Taylor's Corner." By 1886, many residents had moved into Taylor's Corner making it an agricultural center with over 30 farmers working around 100 acres (40 hectares) of farmland irrigated with water from two main rivers running through the town: White Oak Creek and Clear Fork Run. In 1870, James Mapes organized a group of pioneers who began building homes on what are now East Main Street and North Second Avenue; this settlement continued until 1880 when it merged with adjoiningtownship to form another community called Parkland which continued until 1907 when it merged with Saginaw again to form its present-day namesake city().
