Saginaw, Texas is a small town in the Cameron County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Saginaw community was named after General Andrew Jackson's Creektownsite on his 1810 survey of the region now known as Cameron County. The first settler in what is now Saginaw Township was William Withers who arrived in 1827 and built a cabin on a bluff overlooking Big Creek. By 1830, other settlers had also arrive and started to cultivate what is now Saginaw Township. In 1831, Lewis & Clark Expedition passed through Saginaw on their way from Mexico City to Fort Riley in Kansas. They stopped at Big Creek for water and picnics before continuing on their journey north. In 1836, James Fenton established a ranch near present-day Saginaw with land that he acquired from David Hoggison. In 1840–41, John Denton bought land northeast of present-day Saginawa from Fenton and developed it into what is today Midland Park subdivision north of US 181/ highway 2 (now FM 2704). In 1861, following Brownsville's incorporation as an incorporated city, Abraham Lincoln delivered a speech entitled "A Short Address on Buffalo Bayou" within walking distance of Midland Park which laid out much of downtown Brownsville including Main Street between Houston Street westward until its intersection with Elm Street; then east along Elm Street north to I-10 just south of Northbury Road (now US 281). During World War II thousands of men were drafted into service outfitting companies near Midland Park and many homes were used by military families while others were occupied by civilians during the war years such as local businesses like JB Hiatt Chevrolet where bullets still fly occasionaly off 5th Avenue today
