Saginaw, Texas is an unincorporated community in San Antonio County, Texas, United States. The population was 8,752 at the 2010 census. Saginaw is located on TX-471 south of US-75 and east of I-10. It is adjacent to Midland and Lubbock. The area that would become Saginaw was settled as early as 1845 by James Wolk and his family when they moved from Illinois to what is now eastern San Antonio County. In 1854, Wolk's son Samuel founded the town of Midland on a piece of land he had purchased from James Fenton. In 1865, John Hennepin built the first store in what would become Saginaw Township. In 1872, George Wright established a post office in what would become Midland after purchase of the only public school then open in San Antonio County. By 1886, there were six stores and 12 residents in Midland with one newspaper published each week. That year also saw the founding of Saginaw by Elisha Biddle with 10 acres donated from him near present day Midland Boulevard and Pecos River Road north of US 75/I-10 for $1 per acre ($105). On November 17th 1889 two men named Alpheus Holmes (1850 – 1915) and Lewis Frye (1860 – 1935), both citizens of Chicago found employment building a new addition toMidland High School which opened its doors on December 3rd 1893 named for them “Alpheus Holmes & Lewis Frye High School” which served students up until 1959 when it became Saginaw Intermediate School District #2High School Campus” In 1907 Cimarron Coal Company was organized with an initial capitalization totaling $40,000 dollars making it one of Texas' first coal companies with mines located at Eagle Ford Field outside Brownsville while other operations were located in Marshalltown off FM 2271 just east ofpresent day Midland Boulevard northwest Of US 75/I-10 . Mines were active until 1966 when all operations closed due to lack or investment by those owning these properties including CNHP who leased them back out during the late 1960s through early 1970s Hurricane Harvey leading to serious damage along WITHEE Creek bed mining areas causing loss estimated at over $4 million dollars On January 1st 1911 Charles Goodyear became President pro tem for San Antonio County after being elected Mayoralty election held on November 3rd 1910 concurrent with countywide primary election results that registered 424 total ballots cast statewide including 254 electoral votes won by Mayor Goodyear who defeated challenger Major Briggs who got 213 votes out of 447 cast statewide becoming San Antonio’s second political dynasty following that ouster ouster ousting Governor Edwin Edwards less than three years earlier

Saginaw is one of two cities in Midland County, the other being Midland. The city was founded on November 15, 1873 by James Kenedy and Samuel Merrill as a railroad town to serve as a hub for travelers on the Central Pacific Railroad between Chicago and Dallas. The first post office was established in 1874, and growth continued with incorporation of unincorporated areas until 1906 when all but three of Saginaw's contributing settlements were incorporated into the city proper. In 1978, Saginaw became an international center for computer technology with Anschutz Medical Campus nearby.
