In 1902, the Wichita Falls Gun Company was merged into the Browning Arms Corporation and production ceased for a decade. The company resumed production in 1944 and continues today as Browning Firearms Incorporated.
Sachse, Texas is a town located in Hidalgo County, Texas. The population was 7,898 at the 2010 census. Sachse is named after George Sachse, an entrepreneur and local leader in the early days of the town. George founded a flour mill in 1881 and later served as its first mayor. The post office was established in 1903, and the first school was built in 1907. In 1916, Sachse became home to the world's third oil refinery when it opened by Shell Oil Company. It closed in 1978 but reopened as the Achille Lauro Refinery until it ceased operations on October 1, 2018 due to a fire that destroyed part of its building. At its peak production capacity at 100 short tons/day from 1951 through 1979 it produced almost two million pounds of paper per day! After closure due to pollution concerns following an oil spillsage event on December 12th 1978 , Achille Lauro Refinery LLC resumed operations under new ownership beginning January 6th 1984 with an integrated refining/marketing complex including a Bhopal plant! By 1995 total refining capacity had expanded to 431 thousand barrels/day! In 2011 total global Paper Production reached 571 million metric tons making it one of the world’s top 5 producers!
