The Coast Guard gift history in Sachse, Texas begins with the establishment of the Coast Guard at Fort Worth on November 14, 1917. The first cutter, CG-1, was commissioned on December 3rd. At that time the Coast Guard consisted of a Headquarters Unit and 11 detachments located at 5 locations along the Texas coast. On January 1st, 1919, the Commandant General's Office was moved to Fort Worth and patrol duties were transferred from Headquarters to CG-1. The first ship to be purchased by the Coast Guard wasCG-2 which was delivered to us on October 19th, 1920. On May 12th 1923 President Calvin Coolidge presented our newest addition to our fleet - CG-4 USS Constitution Memorial Day cake Delivery. That same year we received our first wireless transmitter - CWG-4D from Radio Corporation of America (RCA). In 1927 we received our first motorboat - HMCS Tigerfish (WAGL) from London Dry Dock Company Ltd.. Our next big purchase came in 1930 when we acquired HMCS Argonaut (WAGR). This beautiful warship cost us $3 million and it helped expand patrols along our coastline! We also became operational with radar in 1932 and began using floats for patrolling purposes in 1933. In 1939 we added an air ambulance unit - HCGO(A)-1 to our fleet but unfortunately World War II intervened and without any warning or notice most of our vessels were taken over by other Warships including ours! Unfortunately many members of the community lost their lives during this time as well as many homes were destroyed due to attrition within the military forces fighting overseas! Thankfully after hostilities ended we were able to finally bring back all but one of our ships which arrived backported here in Sachse on September 9th 1945! Once again thank you President Coolidge for providing us with such an important service!

Sachse is a small town in Medina County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,821 at the 2010 census. Sachse is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and its economy is based on agriculture and manufacturing. In 2016, Forbes listed Sachse as one of the "25 Best Places to Live" in America. The first people to live in what is now Sachse were Dutch immigrants who arrived there in 1836. They named their community after General David Hakluyt's ship, the Achilleus, which had stopped there on its way back from a voyage around the world. At that time, most of Medina County was Indian Territory under military control. The first settlers here were men from New York and Pennsylvania who came westward during the great cattle drives of 1849-1852. When those drives ended they returned home but new families continued to move into this area over time including Germans (mostly Lutheran) who came during the Civil War; Scots-Irish Catholics; and Mormons from Deseret or Salt Lake City . In 1872 an act of Congress created Medina County, including parts of present-day Sachse Township and land east of Red River where that river empties intoockets Creek. That same year saw construction begin on what would become Achilleus Dam across Red River just south of present-day Sachse village limits. A irrigation system was developed thereafter that yielded significant crops and helped make Sachse one of Medina County's major towns by 1890 when it had a population of 553 inhabitants."
