Rowlett is a town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. It was founded in 1881 by J.D. Payne and his family as a small farming community on the banks of the Trinity River. The town quickly became a center for cattle and agriculture, and its post office was established in 1883. In 1925, Rowlett incorporated as an all-county municipality. That year, it began to develop into a commercial center with several storefronts and two banks. In 1935, Rowlett's first high school opened; it was soon followed by local junior colleges and other educational institutions. The town experienced rapid growth during World War II; after the war, Rowlett became one of the most important industrial centers in Texas. In 1946, it designated itself as an official city; that year saw the opening of its first hospital and other municipal buildings. During the 1960s and 1970s, Rowlett experienced some significant changes: its downtown area was redeveloped into business districts; two new schools were built; and several thousand jobs were generated by the local manufacturing sector. In 1978, Rowlett celebrated its centennialth anniversary; that year also sawthe opening of its first park - which has since become one of the most popular in town - as well as major renovations to many of its municipal buildings.

One of the most important coffee stories in Rowlett, Texas is that of Joe's Coffee. Joe's Coffee was founded in 1938 by Joseph G. "Joe" Barksdale and his brother-in-law, Harry Smith. The business started out as a small grocery store on Elm Street in Rowlett. In 1941, the company moved to its current location on Highway 183 south of town. In 1945, Joe's Coffee became the first company to sell coffee through drive-through windows. The coffee shop continued to be successful until it closed its doors in 1988. Since then, the business has been passed down from one generation to the next and continues to be popular in Rowlett today because of its unique atmosphere and great tasting coffee.

While Rowlett began as primarily agricultural territory it now has a wide variety of businesses including: medical offices, manufacturing plants, restaurants, technology companies, service providers such as repair shops and mechanics services; educational institutions such as DPSD's Baylor University and Fort Worth Baptist College; government agencies such as the Dallas County Sheriff's Department; mediumsized retail stores; two hotels - one run by Marriott International Incorporated called Park Hyatt Regency Dallas County Resort & Convention Center which opened in 2006 adjacent to SouthPark Mallowned by Anheuser Busch InBev NV; three high school campuses - One for DPSD's John Marshall High School east side Campus opened in 2002 on Interstate 635 South formerly home to North Texas High School District No 2 located on Commerce Street across I-635 south from SouthPark Mall owned by Anheuser Busch InBev NV; one tiny community - Marfa - formed around an oil refinery that had been abandoned years earlier but reopened as anResidents still refer to it locally even though access to oil wealth via highways has greatly diminished nearby Winkler offramps were briefly closed after jackpot status lottery winner entered address

Rowlett is a census-designated place in Lampasas County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,842 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The Rowlett post office was established on December 12, 1876, and continued operation until it was discontinued on October 20, 1966. The first settler in what is now Rowlett was John Pritchard. In 1881, Henry Cates bought land from Pritchard for $5 per acre. He built the first store and home here. In 1907 Harry Sills opened a general store here which became one of the most popular places to buy groceries inDallas-Fort Worth at that time. By 1915 it had become an important artery for trade between Dallas and Fort Worth as well as being known for its fruit crops such as apples and pears brought in by wagonload from various farms around central Texas. In 1916 Sills donated his building to local school district which used it as a library before demolishing it in 1965 to make way for new housing developments which continue to this day.. In 1922 Tella Wagoner married James Hanks who lived here with her family until they moved away during World War II when he served with the U.S Army Air Forces stationed in Japan.. After their departure Tella erected a small shed on her property near present day Highway 82 just east of town hall where she entertained customers until her death in 1951 after many years of providing cultural activities for students at nearby Lamar High School (now Lamar University). Her daughter Loretta conducted operations from said shed until her death also in 1951.. A post office called Rowlett was established at this location on December 12th 1876 by JnoPritchard with Fenty Alderney serving as Postmaster/First Class while mail service between Dallas and Fort Worth took place via stagecoach connections only It operated until October 20th 1966 when it was discontinued due to lack of interest
