The first post office in Rowlett was established on October 25, 1872, and it continued to serve until May 4, 1907. The current post office building was built in 1917 and is now used as a courthouse. On November 2, 1888, Rowlett had its first railroad connection when the Brazos & Texas Central Railroad reached Rowlett from Dallas via the Hutchins Ranch Road.
