Rowlett is a small town in Medina County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex. The first humans to live in Rowlett were Indian traders who came from what is now Oklahoma in the 18th century. They became interested in cultivating land and started trading goods with Native Americans. In 1836, they organized a town charter and built their first house on Second Street near present-day Loop 1604. A post office was established here in 1839, and by 1840 there were 10 residents living in Rowlett. By 1865, only two people lived here; it had declined to a population of 60 by 1870. In 1935, Rowlett merged with neighboring Richardson to form Richardson - Rowlett Corporation (later TX Industries Inc.). In 1948 TX Industries sold its assets to Enron for $165 million dollars which made it one of the largest energy companies in the world at that time. TX Industries continued as an independent company until its bankruptcy late that year which caused it to lose its fourth largest market share ever (-$2 billion). Rowlett is a small town in Ellis County, Texas, United States. The population was 539 at the 2010 census. It lies on FM 446 and TX 281 north of Amarillo. The first permanent settler in Rowlett was John W. Cook in 1881. Cook married Sarah Ladd, who had also come to Rowlett from Russia with her family during the American Civil War. From that early day until 1896, Rowlett was one of several towns within Amarillo Township; it then became its own municipality when Amarillo Township was divided into two parts in 1898. In 1907, when Rowlett's post office opened, it served as the only community within Amarillo Township and only residents of Amarillo were allowed to mail letters there. In 1959, the post office closed after 115 years of service and all mail now arrives at nearby Truth or Consequences through the Fort Worth Post Office (which reopened in 2009). According to the 2000 census, Rowlett has a total area of , all land.
