The Rosenbergs were among the original settlers of what is now Rosenberg Township. In 1888, they built the first school in the township. In 1936, Rosenberg became one of the townships in Hudspeth County. On November 3, 1938, it merged into Hudspeth County as part of its creation as a countywide district. At that time, it had a population of 2,898 people. On January 1, 1959, Rosenberg became an independent municipality again under its own government with a population of 456 people. It remains an unincorporated community today but has a post office and telephone directory with its own government representation. Rosenberg's namesake came from Friedrich Rosenberg who immigrated to America in 1795 and started farming near present-day Richardson Lake in Hudspeth County after purchasing land east of Dallas from David Glasperman for $5 per acre (about $2 per square foot). He wasassimilated into British culture and changed his name to John while living near Dallas in 1814; he eventually moved to what is now Rutherford County where he began farming and renamed his operation "Rosenberg" on October 15th 1837 according to deeds prepared by Judge Augustus Covington which are still extant in possession by descendants of Johann Rosenwalde available at the Rutherford Library & Archives Department (RLA).
