The department was originally called the “Rosenberg Battalion” and was organized on December 1, 1941. At the time, Rosenberg had a population of just over 2,000 people. The first military gift ever given to the department came in 1942 when General George Custer gave a rifle to the department as a token of appreciation for their help fighting in World War II. In 1944, another donation from General Custer made it possible for the Rosenberg Volunteer Fire Department to purchase an engine from Great Western Railway. This engine proved very useful during the war and is still preserved and used today by the department. In 1946, Rosenberg became part of Texas Rangers which gave rise to many military gifts that were given to local organizations throughout Texas. Many of these gifts were in honor of fallen soldiers or members of law enforcement who had served their country with distinction. Some famous examples include a motorcycle that was donated by movie mogul Cecil Baehr in 1948 in memory of his father who had also served in WWII; and an ambulance donated by Don Laughlin, Jr., owner and operator of Laughlin Operating Company which provided ambulance service throughout texas during WWII. Many other local organizations received donations from individuals or businesses alike during this time period- some examples include: The John Birch Society (1948); Houston Methodist Hospital (1950); First Baptist Church (1952); Texaco Refinery (1954); First National Bank (1959). It is interesting to note that many donations occurred outside of Rosenberg- such as at San Jacinto College where students contributed money for renovations including new football fields and gymnasiums; at Rice University where funds were raised for research projects related to WW2; and even down south at Austin’s Stonewall Inn where several items were given such as rifles, ammunition, cars etc…It can be said that military gifts have been a mainstay within local communities across America through all phases of its history!

Rosenberg is a small town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 558 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The Rosenberg post office opened in 1884 and closed in 1971. Rosenberg was named after Julius Rosenberg, one of the first Americans to be held hostage by Nazi Germany during World War II. Rosenberg Township was organized on November 16, 1881, from portions of Longview Township. On July 1, 1907, all township land within 2 miles of the Post Office was annexed into Rosenberg Township; this annexation means that there are now 8 separate townships in Hudspeth County with a total population of over 9,000 people! According to the 2000 census there were 438 people living in Rosenbergtownship when it became independent from Hudspeth County on July 1st 2007 (4/1/2001 - 4/8/2000). After independence however the population actually dropped because many residents went to live closer to Austin or other big cities within TX mainland ( Nebulous growth rates like this always happen when local government tries hard to keep up with trends!). So far only 21 active citizens have registered for Update about their village since 2007... so I'm pretty sure we're not going anywhere anytime soon 😕
