Rosenberg, Texas is a small town in Midland County, Texas, United States. It is located on the border of Midland and Odessa counties. The population was 5,693 at the 2010 census. Rosenberg is part of the Midland, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town began as a cattle ranching community in 1881. The name comes from Rothman's Ranch which was founded by Isaac Rothman in 1876. In 1907, the town site was chosen to be built on by Colonel Julius Rosenberg and his wife Evalyn Biddle Rosenberg for their homebuilt city of Rosenberg Heights adjacent to Midland Municipal Airport. Rosenberg had two stores when it incorporated as a village in 1915: Myer's Department Store and the Post Office Building. A fire destroyed both buildings in 1947; however, due to donations from local citizens and business owners alike and reconstructive work done by volunteers (the first such project ever carried out in this area), both structures were saved and reopened as Reed's grocery store/bakery/counselor shop/library with new storefronts completed in late 2009-2010 after several years of renovation In 1928-29 Judge Harry Ladd homesteaded 2 1/2 acres (0.8 km²) east of downtown on land given him by his father-in-law Hiram Page Ladd Sr.. This parcel became known as "Ladd Hill". In 1939 during World War II General John J. Pershing ordered that all Japanese Americans living east of Dallas be rounded up and taken into concentration camps; consequently many people who lived near downtown Rosenburg were also rounded up including Judge Harry Ladd whose farmstead became known as "Hill Country". Upon receiving word that his property had been confiscated he fled westward to Canada but returned to take possession of his land whereupon he developed it into what is now Rosenberg Hills since much later portions reverted back to agricultural use while still within municipal limits A post office operated at Rosenberg from November 15th 1890 until July 25th 1903 under the name "Odessa." On October 3rd 1893 postmaster Sidney Wirtz moved from nearby San Angelo to serve here with mail sent via stagecoach across Hudspeth Creek between Austin and Midland The only stoplight within city limits operates at Main Street; it has been replaced by an automated traffic control system that uses cameras mounted on poles throughout city limits As one would expect with anything new there are some glitches but overall things are going well according to founder Clyde Hirschfeld who retired last year after contributing $5 million over 10 years Accordingly starting January 1st 2020 all services will move indoors away from heat & noise so please bear with us!
