The society also erected a tollgate at what is now US Highway 183 near its current location to collect money for road maintenance and other purposes from travelers passing through Robstown. In 1928, the first high school in Tarrant County opened here, named after then-U.S. Senator John Fenton Wiley (D-Fort Worth). A new elementary school was constructed in 1960 and renamed after Wiley’s widow, Alice Wiley Fenton Wiley; that building still stands today as Heritage Elementary School."
