The TANG detachment was organized into two wings and were responsible for providing aerial refueling and patrol activity in the area. In 1951, the wing was combined with the adjacent unit, the 1st Tactical Airlift Wing (1TAW), and became a commando squadron known as "The Eagles". In 1970, 1TAW moved from Robstown to Austin after being reactivated there from inactive status. On July 15 of that year, 1TAW became operational as one of two Tactical Air Command-level commands under Tactical Air Command/Fourth Wing at Lackland AFB. It stationed at Langley AFB before moving to Seymour Johnson AFB in Georgia in 1993 when TACC was disbanded and absorbed by United States Strategic Command. 1TAW returned to Robstown on Sept. 18, 2003 following its move back to Austin following Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Robstown is a small town in Medina County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,206 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1879 by John and Sarah Roberson. In 1907, it became a part of Medina County. In 1924, it incorporated as a city. In 1951, the city merged with neighboring Richardson to form the current Robstown-Richardson Combined Statistical Area. According to the 2000 census, there were 1,912 people living in Robstown and its annexed areas. Of these residents (92 percent), more than 90 percent held positions within municipal government or other public service roles; most everyone who worked for an entity that received city funding also lived within Robstown boundaries. These include police officers (172/901), firefighters (77/1,070), building inspectors (51/829), library trustees (50/782), water supply managers (19/535) and street sweepers (18/417). "Robstown," according to one report from 2003 "was one of about 20 towns throughout Texas that had no real job market presence outside their own borders until recently because so few Texans ventured out ofDallas during those years.",[2] has since experienced significant growth due to its inclusion on comprehensive economic development plans developed by both local and state governments across metroplex districts in recent years - culminating with its designation as a Fastest Growing City inTexas by Forbes Magazine just prior to the annexation of Richardson into Dallas-Fort Worth MSA earlier this year! - furthering its already strong foundation as an essential player in regional economic development!
