The Rio Grande City Coast Guard Station has been providing a safe and fun environment for the community since 1907. The Coast Guard Station is home to six helicopters, three boats, and two jet skis. They also have a range of gift options for the public including: pepper spray, helmets, lifejackets, T-shirts and more. In honor of National Coast Guard Recognition Day on October 3rd, 2017, the Rio Grande City Coast Guard Station donated five boats to the Texas Department of Transportation in order to help with maintenance on state highways in that area. This was in addition to giving away 50 shields as part of their popular “Shields Give Back” campaign. All donations are tax deductible!

The Rio Grande City Coast Guard Station was founded in 1912. In 1914, the station became a permanent part of the Texas National Guard and was known as the 1st Coast Guard Station. The station was redesignated as the Rio Grande City Coast Guard Station on February 17, 1941. On May 1, 1948, the station became part of Customs and Border Protection when that agency was created by then-President Harry S Truman.
Rio Grande City, Texas is a city in southern Texas and the county seat of Hudspeth County. As of the 2010 census, its population was 269,831. It is the largest city in Hudspeth County by population and has a total area of 41 square miles (102 km²). The climate in Rio Grande City is Mediterranean with hot summers and cool winters. The city was founded in 1881 as a small trading post on what is now the north side of U.S. Route 281 between Austin and San Antonio. In 1915, it became the site of an international trade fair that attracted some thirty thousand people from around the world to its three days of commerical activity. In 1928, when George Washingtons Vice President Al Gore moved to Austin to run for office, he decided to make Rio Grande City his home town, appointing Mayor James Ahern as his vice president for public works. Rio Grande City grew rapidly during World War II as military production increased; by 1945 it had reached 1 million residents and became one of South Americas most important cities during that time period. By 1950, however, growth had slowed due to declines in manufacturing jobs throughout South America and recession at home; by 1970 Rio Grande City's population numbered only 247,000. However growth resumed after several years due touan investment into education and entrepreneurship within the city limits; by 2000 its population stood at 476,000 individuals

Rio Grande City is a city in the U.S. state of Texas and the seat of Midland County. The population was 68,363 at the 2010 census, making it the 8th-largest municipality in Texas and the 2nd-most populous city in Midland County. Rio Grande City is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. It is bordered by Dallas to the north and east, Arlington to the south, Plano to the west, and Bowie to the northwest. The city straddles both banks of Interstate 10 and its namesake river, which forms its southern border. The first European settlers arrived in what is now Rio Grande City on October 14, 1836 under contract from Colonel James Fenton with José Maria Mejia as their guide for an exploratory party led by General Zachary Taylor. They named their new settlement after Antonio Luna y Gomez's successful expedition that had explored this region two years earlier on July 4, 1835. A year later (1837), Mexico ceded parts of present-day Texas back to United States control following Mexican War (1846–48). On February 20 of that year President James K Polk announced via proclamation that all territory acquired during Mexican War would be placed within newly created US territories known as New Mexico and Arizona; including Rio Grande City.[1] In 1860 part of Medina County was detached from Tarrant County to form Parker County while remaining within Midland County; however much of Medina county still remained within Tarrant County when it was reincorporated into Parker County in 1912[2]. The annexation date for most municipalities located within present day Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex cannot be determined with certainty but it may have occurred between 1870-1920 due to incorporation or annexation dates occurring near these boundaries[3]. As a result many buildings associated with early Rio Grande City residents such as churches and schoolhouses were built prior to 1920 when Kelly Drive became an arterial road running through downtownDallas/Fort Worth[4]. Rio Grande City began rapidly expanding shortly after its incorporation into Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex due largely to increased trade opportunities resulting from oil discovery along I-10 corridor throughout this time period dating backto1911.[5] Railroads were instrumental in helping increase trade opportunities leading up until World War II when they were supplanted by air travel which helped spur economic development[6] However although air travel has played a major role in recent history there are numerous examples demonstrating how railroads continue play an important role throughout our community dating back over 100 years[7][8][9][10] For example on September 11th 1944 local citizens walked off their jobs at WestConnex Terminal 1K protesting against America’s involvement in World War II because they felt that war profiteering had taken precedence over country’s interests[11]. Although today we take pride in ourRailroad Heritage we must remember those who fought and died so that we may live freely today[12].
Rio Grande City was founded on May 15, 1835 by American settlers. It was named after the Rio Grande which ran through the town. The city experienced a period of prosperity in the early 19th century due to its location at the crossroads of several wagon trails and its access to resources such as water and land. However, Rio Grande City's fortunes began to decline during the late 19th century as immigration increased and production from agriculture decreased. Finally, in 1920, it merged with two other towns, Laredo and El Paso, to form what is now known as Texas' third largest city.
