Richardson, Texas is a small town located in Midland County, Texas, United States. It is the county seat of Midland County and has a population of just over 10,000 people. Richardson was founded in 1891 by John Richardson and it became an incorporated municipality in 1902. The current mayor of Richardson is Ron Kirkpatrick. Richardson experienced rapid growth from the early 1800s until the mid-20th century. In 1881, John Richardson founded Richardson's Mills on the banks of the San Jacinto River about two miles west of present-day Richardson. By 1901, Richardson had acquired land extending east to Mission Creek and a millrace running south to Brushy Fork Creek. The Richardsons built a frame house on what is now Elm Street in 1903 and began operating their mill which produced cotton cloth and other items until 1938 when it closed due to World War II shortages of steel needs. The post office at Richfield was established in 1893, becoming an important link between central Texas and eastern Oklahoma City through mail transportation (the first post office west of Wichita Falls). After 1913 when railroads were extended into Midland County, mail service increased with the opening of several new routes including one along Elm Street that connected downtown with Richfield Square (now part of downtown Dallas). In 1932, Mayor John Denton endorsed plans for annexation by Dallas as a way to increase revenue brought about by new development within city limits; this resulted in rapid growth for Richardson as well as Dallas during the 1920s and 1930s who often took advantage of annexed lands for their own commercial interests without any consultation or involvement from local officials. In 1962 Mayor Clyde Kemp appointed Karyl Sims as acting mayor following his death leaving Richardson with an ineffective leadership team elected four years later with Sims' daughter chairing affairs temporarily until election day when she resigned effective immediately upon learning her father's will had left control over Richardson to Kirkpatrick alone indefinitely making him effectively dictator/mayor throughout his five year term - much like modern city mayors are currently treated without process or input from residents even though they hold incredibly powerful positions full time
