Portland, Texas was the first coffee town in America. The area now includes parts of Houston and Austin, and coffee has been a mainstay in their economy for over 100 years. In 1862, Lorenzo Bean started a small coffee business in what is now called the Lloyd District of Portland. By 1890, beans were being sold at $1 per pound from a small shop on Southwest Seventh Street. The first major commercial roast operation in Portland happened in 1907 when Harry Fenton began selling Columbian Coffee at the Inter-State Fairgrounds. The fair was an important event for European immigrants coming to America and gave them an opportunity to try American coffee for the first time. At this time, Columbian Coffee was exported all over the United States. In 1912, John Doerr bought Columbian Coffee from Fenton and opened Doerr's CoffeeHOUSE on Northwest Third Avenue in Portland with his son Teddy Doerr as manager. This marked the beginning of Oregon's largest coffee house chain with more than 20 stores across Oregon and Washington by 1915. Doerr's died suddenly in 1916 while traveling to New York City for business reasons; his widow continued operations under her husbands name until her death in 1951. That same year, Eugene "Pete" Shea founded First National Corporation (later known as Peet's Coffee) which became one of America’s leading coffee companies with more than 150 stores throughout the U..S., Canada and Mexico by 1939
Portland, Texas is a small town located in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hudspeth County. The area now includes Portland, founded in 1872 as a trading post on the Arkansas River between Hudspeth and Starr Counties, was part of what is today called Chihuahua. In 1912 it became an independent municipality with its own government and court system. It experienced significant growth following World War II when many veterans returned to Portland after serving in combat in Europe or Asia. After decades of decline, which included several years of political instability and economic depression,the city achieved revitalization starting in the late 1990s under Mayor David Condon. Today Portland has one of the highest concentrations of art galleries per capita in North America and ranks among the top 10 U.S. cities for job growth according to Forbes magazine

It may have something to do with their unique environment – located on an area of high rainfall and volcanic activity – which helped make this bean one of the most resistant to pests and diseases. Additionally, Ethiopians also tend to be very passionate about their food (something you can clearly see in their love for their espresso). So when they started drinking Java Coffee Beans – which aregrown nearby – they were getting what they wanted from their cup of java: deliciousness without any nasty chemicals or additives.

It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex and has been called "the cultural and economic capital of the Lone Star State." The first settlers in what is now Portland, Texas were Texans who arrived during the Mexican-American War (1846-48). They built their first cabin on the banks of the Brazos River in 1849. In 1855, they founded what would become Nueces County. The early growth of Portland was due to its location as a railroad junction between Lubbock and Amarillo; it became an important center for commerce and education. The arrival of railroads led to increased development in town, which included construction of schools, churches and other buildings. The city's significance declined after World War II when oil production began flowing into nearby Houston more quickly thaninto Nueces County. However, oil production resumed in Oregon City in 2002 andPortland gained anew national attention as a cultural destination thanks to its growing music industry
Portland, Texas was founded in 1853 as the town of Lubbock. It was named after a then-unidentified city in England. The first store opened in 1854, and the first post office opened in 1855. In 1860, Portland became an independent municipality. When the state of Texas seceded from the United States in 1861, Portland became an American Indian territory.
