The first coffee shop in Plainview was opened in 1903 by Judge George B. White and his wife, Sarah. The business operated until it was replaced by the current location in 1912. In 1928, Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Capps opened a grocery store next door to the coffee shop and continued to operate the business until it was demolished in 1975.
Plainview is a small town in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,980 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tyler– Burlington–McLennan area. The first Europeans to set foot in what is now Plainview were French fur traders working for the Comanche Indians in 1829-30. The post office at Plainview was established in 1836 and remained in operation until it was discontinued by the U.S. Postal Service in 1966. In 1870, A.F. Hutton organized a claim on salt land east of present-day PlainVIEW and named it after himself, "Hutton's Rancho de las Cienfuegos". On April 15, 1912, he sold his interest to Maurice Winton for $10 per acre ($2 million today). Winton had been interested since 1909 when he heard about an opportunity to purchase land from Jno. Baca near modern day Tyler that would include both rancho and town sites. In 1916 Hutton sold his remaining interest to Harry Fenton who subdivided it into sixteen tracts totaling . He called the new town "PlainVIEW" after his rancho's location within sight of what would become PlainVIEW proper; however mapmakers continue to call it simply "PlainVIEW". The townsite plat was filed with the Midland County Land Office on March 10, 1917 and approval was given on July 13th following a public hearing held at Elmira High School where residents voiced their concerns about possible annexation by neighboring Tyler or Burlington (then part of Midland County). After much discussion and analysis by City officials including Manager Orville Rundle as well as representatives from each municipality involved no annexation occurred but rather plain view became its own entity with all its own taxes and regulations just like any other municipality within our county limits - something not seen before or since! This event marked not only the beginning of plain VIEW's existence but also its incorporation into our larger community which has grown exponentially over time!

Plainview, Texas is a small town located in the heart of the Lone Star State. The population was 5,890 at the 2000 census and 7,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of Midland County in Texas. The first settler in Plainview was J.C. Hoyt who arrived in 1879. He founded what would become Hoyt-Craddock Manufacturing Company which manufactured goods such as shoes and saddles. The company prospered until it went bankrupt in 1921 due to poor management and economic conditions. In 1925, Humble Oil & Gas Corporation leased land from John Denton for a refinery that would eventually produce gasoline and other oil products for Texaco gas stations across the state of Texas. The plant produced its first product on July 1, 1927 under contract from Texaco with the slogan "Our Own Product". The plant closed on December 31, 1957 due to low production rates and lack of spare parts. In 1951, Plainview merchants established the Plainview Chamber of Commerce which has been instrumental in promoting local businesses ever since. In 2002, Plainview High School became one of only three high schools statewide to be certified by AdvancED - an inner city educational program that offers Accelerated Developmental Education (ADE) services to struggling slumming areas - providing extra resources and support for students as they reach their potential through rigorous academic programming while working toward early success goals within their communities. Plainview also boasts a rich history dating back to 1870 when Josiah Wadsworth settled here after travelling through Central America on his way home from fighting against Mexico during the Mexican–American War (1846-48). Wadsworth built a log cabin near present day US Highway 283 known as "Wadsworth's Cabin" before he moved his family into what is now PlainVIEW Elementary School circa 1876-77 after purchasing 320 acres south of Main Street where he had earlier erected a log house/farmstead/storage barn/gazebo/lumberyard known then as "Homespun Row". Wadsworth named his new community Plains View after nearby Prairie View A&M University where he had been studying law prior to enlisting in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War (1861-65). Plains View developed slowly until about 1910 when several large farmers bought land surrounding Wadsworth's original farmstead including future Mayor Ethel Solliday Price; Drs John Waddell Fenton & Harry Haney; Capt James Biddle Goudreau & Mrs Lillian Pemberton; Mr George Cockerill & many others.......
