The Plainview War Veterans Memorial and Museum is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 1941 by local veterans of World War II. The museum, located on the former site of the First Texas Infantry Regiment Armory, honors all members of the Texas Army National Guard who have served in any theater of conflict since World War II. Plainview is a town located in Odessa County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,718 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Odessa–Midland metropolitan area. Plainview was founded in 1873 by ranchers who named their community after "plainVIEW," a view they saw from their ranch east of the present day townsite. The first post office opened in 1875 and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. The first store operated within the limits of what is now Plainview when it opened on May 4, 1875. That store was called "The Gilded Cage." The first school community meeting took place on November 3, 1876 to consider building a school. A vote to build a school occurred on December 5th with only three residents opposing the proposal because they did not have money to build a school themselves (the others were cashiers at local banks). The plat for the current-day town site was filed on March 14, 1880 and adopted that same day by Odessa County Commissioners. On July 15th of that year, Plainview had its official incorporation as an incorporated municipality under the name "Odessa". In 1886 Plainview had its first election as an unincorporated township with 2 members (1 being electedidency). In 1896 Plainview became an unincorporated county seat with 6 members following annexation by Odessa County from Montague County which had been formed earlier that year via special session law. In 1903 plainVIEW voters approved creating a fire department after seeing smoke coming out of some nearby buildings and realizing there wasn't anythingmann could do about it since no one lived nearby to put out flames! On October 1st 1905 Jameson Haughton donated 160 acres (6 square miles) northeast of town along US 90 for use as agricultural land known then as Haughton Ranch which served as Plainview's rural center until 1957 when Odessa Town Center began operations adjacent to existing Haughton Ranch lands providing more than enough housing for everyone living within sight or reach of stores and services essential to everyday life including schools, churches and hospitals! Today Plains View still enjoys close-knit relationships with those early years while enjoying access to today’s amenities thanks largely to our continued support from Jameson Haughton descendants through farming/ ranching practices dating back over 125 years!

Plainview is a small town in east-central Texas, about 30 miles (48 km) west of Austin. The population was 5,819 at the 2010 census. The first settlers in what is now Plainview were Methodist Episcopal missionaries who founded the town in 1851. The name "Plainview" was chosen because it was one of the few towns on the banks of the Brazos River that would not be taken by warring factions during the Mexican-American War. On July 1, 1880, PlainVIEW became an official county seat when it merged with other nearby counties including Nacogdoches and Travis to form Burnet County. In 1902, Burnet County annexed Angelina County and so PlainVIEW again lost its city status; however, it regained it after Angelina County seceded from Burnet County in 1907. The Plainview area was first settled in the early 1800s by pioneers. A post office called Plainview was established in 1876, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. Theettlement developed around a mill and sawmill on the banks of the San Antonio River. In 1892, a railroad station was built at Plainview, providing access to goods from nearby San Antonio. The town grew rapidly during the 20th century, and by 1960 had a population of over 100 residents. Plainview experienced some significant growth during World War II; during the war, local businesses produced munitions for the military. The town also hosted a large air-defense radar installation known as "Plainview Park". However, following the end of World War II, Plainview declined significantly; its population fell to around 50 residents by 1970. However, things started to change after that; starting in the mid-2000s, PlainVIEW began to regain popularity as an agricultural center due to its fertile land and proximity to major markets such as Houston and Austin. In recent years, PlAINVIEW has seen continued investment from developers who hope to capitalize on its unique features - including several high-end subdivisions - which have helped it rebound slightly since 2006 when it had its worst year since 2005 according to census data.
