Pharr is a small town in Texas, located just east of the state capital, Austin. The population was 1,645 at the 2010 census. Pharr is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex. It is one of two towns within extraterritorial jurisdiction of Austin and both are adjacent to each other on I-35W. The name "Pharr" probably originated with Spanish settlers who came to the area in 1821. A post office was established at Pharr in 1825, and it continued operations until 1896. In 1888, James Withers founded a cotton gin here which became one of the largest cotton plantations in Texas. Withers also raised horses and cattle for meat and export to Mexico and Europe during the 19th century. In 1902, Pharr incorporated as a city; this occurred because residents had desired more incorporation options than what were available from their individual county governments at that time. The opening of Interstate 35W made Pharr an important transportation center for southeastern Texas during the early 21st century; as such, it has experienced significant economic growth throughout that period. The city's rich history can be seen in its many buildings dating back to various periods: from structures built by Anglo-Americans during Reconstruction (1874–1892) through Mexican Period buildings (1902–1910) to Independence Hall erected by Pharr's first mayor (1898). The current City Hall was dedicated on October 6, 2001; prior to that date it served as the County Courthouse building across I-35W from where proceedings were held before Travis County Superior Court judges until then – all without having any recording capacity! Today’s downtown districts include several churches and cultural attractions like Artesian Well Museum & Garden with its impressive collection of Prehistoric artifacts dating back 4500 BC or so – making it one of only five museums worldwide with such a collection!

Dunford Jr. This system continued until 1987 when brigade structure was eliminated in favor of a more centralized command structure with headquarters at Fort Worth, Texas. Today, there are over 26 million military members serving in both domestic and international units within our country’s defense forces. Each one of these soldiers represents a unique contribution to our society and we should never forget how important it is that they are able to protect us from harm.
