When Mexicans began to arrive in Pharr, Texas in the early 1800s, they brought with them their coffee culture. The first European settlers who arrived in the area were Dutchmen, and they introduced coffee to this new land. The Dutchmen named their beans “maga” which means “milk-white” because of the milk that was used to make it. The Mexican immigrants who came later also brought their coffee culture with them. They called their beans “coffeepaña” which means “coffee house or café”. In 1892, a man by the name of Antonio Gomez opened the first maga coffee house in Pharr. This cafe was located on Market Street and served as a meeting place for local merchants and government officials. The popularity of maga coffeehouses continued to grow throughout the years. By 1915, there were over 20 maga cafes operating throughout Texas. These cafes played an important role in helping spread awareness about Mexican America and its customs and traditions. In addition, these cafes helped preserve some of Mexico’s most famous foods and beverages such as churros, al pastor tacos, and mezcal drinks.
There are many types of coffee and maga coffee is a type of coffee that is popular in Africa. The beans used for maga coffee are roasted differently than the beans used for regular or decaf coffee. Maga coffee has a distinct flavor that is not found in most other types of Coffee. It has a fruity, sweet taste and it can be enjoyed with any beverage, including tea or milk.
The first coffee shop in Pharr, Texas opened up in 1917. It was called The Coffee ROOM and served coffee and pastries from the local bakery. In 1951, Mr. and Mrs. Tomahawk opened their own coffee shop which became the most popular spot in town for business women on Saturdays morning. In 1966, Mrs. Tomahawk passed away leaving her husband with ownership of the business. He continued to run it until his death in 1984. After his death, the business passed down to his wife's son who operated it until 1992 when it closed due to lack of patronage.
Pharr is a small town in the US state of Texas. The population was 9,830 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Amarillo–Nacogdoches Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area now known as Pharr was first settled by Native Americans in the early 18th century. A post office called Pharr was established in 1827, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1901. In 1847, Mexican traders arrived at Pharr from Pecos County, New Mexico and stocked up on goods before moving on to Fort Worth. By 1850, Pharr had a school and a Methodist church. In 1861, during the American Civil War, Confederate forces burned down the Methodist church while Union troops defended it; this destroyed most of the town's infrastructure and left it without power or water for many months afterwards. Afterward, Pharr reverted to Mexican control and saw sporadic activity until 1865 when US Marines arrived to quash a pro-Mexican resistance movement within the community. After that point things started to ramp up again with new construction projects being undertaken such as an cotton gin and phosphate mine Hatfield & McCoy operated between 1886 and 1928). The town got its name from General Samuel French "Parson" Johnson's home which sat atop an hill overlooking what is now downtown (the original fortifications were built nearby). Bryant Hotel opened in 1913 after residents banded together to fund its construction; it served as both a hotel and local courthouse until 1978 when it caught fire leaving all but one floor unusable. Today only one wing remains standing - this wing features art galleries, restaurants and stores dating back to 1925 unique examples of Art Deco architecture from around Texas including two movie theaters.. pharr tx

The first mention of maga coffee is in a Buddhist scripture, the Mahabharata, which mentions that this bean was used to make an intoxicating drink called pithā. Maga coffee beans were also grown in Southeast Asia and China before they spread to India. The first mention of java in English came from an account written by Portuguese explorer Diogo Cão in 1502. He wrote that he had tasted “this excellent wine” which he named “Java” after a part of Java Island where he had been shipwrecked. Java became the world’s first espresso house in 1776 when Antonio Armando da Costa opened the first café on Rua das Laranjas in Lisbon. Java is still one of the most popular cafes in Lisbon today and offers its customers unique experiences such as Indonesian lunchtime cuisine or Brazilian nightlife drinks called caipirinhas. Today, maga coffee is enjoyed all over the world and can be found at many cafés and restaurants both fresh-made and pre-packaged variants including those made with instant coffee powder or blended with other flavors like chocolate or vanilla extract. Pharr was founded in 1836 by Sam Houston and his wife, Margarita. The town was named after Pharr Creek, which ran through the community. The Post Office was established in 1837 and operated until 1893. Pharr had a population of 1,500 by 1840. It grew to 4,000 by 1860, 10,000 by 1870, and 20,000 by 1880. The cotton industry began to grow in the town during the 19th century; however, it declined during the 20th century. As a result of its decline and lack of prosperity, Pharr voted for passage of Prohibition in 1919. By 1925, there were only 400 residents living in Pharr; however, it continued to grow rapidly due to its location within Texas's New Cotton Belt region. In 1930-1931, Pharr annexed the neighboring municipality of White Rock; this annexation made it the second largest city within Texas's borders after Austin (the capital). By 1935-1936, Pharr had reached its present size with an population of 2200 residents. The cotton industry experienced another decline during World War II; as a result of this decline and competition from other industries such as petroleum production and manufacturing, little progress has been made since then toward revival or redevelopment of the town center or development outside its limits. However growth is underway eastward along I-10 from downtown into adjacent suburbs which are growing more suburban as well as developing some commercial properties that used to be located inside downtownPharr's nickname "The Hub" is due largely to its position within New Cotton Belt region where many new businesses have arisen since 1990 when Interstate 10 became concurrent with US 290
Pharr, Texas was founded in 1846 by Captain James Fenton. The town was named for Pharr County, where it was located. It became a part of the United States in1848.
