The town was founded by Jacob Pfluger in 1871 as a small farming community on the banks of the Trinity River. A post office was established in 1872 and named after him; it remained in operation until 1939. Pflugerville's first store and school were built in 1874. The first settler to come to Pflugerville was George W. Mason, who arrived on July 4, 1876. In 1909, Pflugerville became home to its present high school and fire hall; it also constructed a municipally funded water tower in 1915. The town's economy has been based mainly on agriculture since its founding; however, manufacturing has become increasingly important over time as industry shifted from agriculture to service businesses such as transportation and media companies. Today, many heavy commercial activities are located along Interstate 10 near downtown: these include large printing plants (such as JCPenney), chemical companies (including Dow Chemical), information technology firms (including Apple Inc.), and software companies (IBM). In addition, there are several smaller businesses scattered throughout the town center including restaurants, convenience stores/malls, an auto dealership/, guitar shop/, and several small-town grocery stores/. According to the 2000 census estimate,[2] some 3/4 of PFLUGERVILLE'S residents identify themselves as white Anglo-Saxon Protestants while about 1/4 identify themselves as Hispanic or Latino Americanos according to their ethnicity alone or through another race identity such as African American or Asian Pacific Islander

Pflugerville is a small town in Dallas County, Texas, United States. It was founded by German immigrants in 1879. The current population of Pflugerville was 4,868 as of the 2010 census. The name comes from the German word "Pfahl" meaning "crossroads." The community was laid out on what is now the eastern edge of Dallas County, and it grew quickly because of its location on the border between two important agricultural areas: the Clay Hills region to the east and west and Fort Worth to the northwest. The first families to arrive in Pflugerville were farmers who had been driven out of their homes by wars with Mexico. In 1881, John Pfohl bought 160 acres (65 hectares) east of downtown Pflugerville from Alexander Hays for $1 per acre. By 1886, there were 10 Pfohl families living in Pflugerville. In 1915-16, a group of businessmen led by William Dickey purchased 640 acres (240 hectares) near present-day Arlington Heights for $10 per acre from James Fenton Sr., founder and first president ofDallas Cowboys Football Club and namesake owner also of Arlington Heights Golf Course. The land was then used for cattle Pasture No. 1 which stretched all along what is now I-635 northwest to Floyd Road northeast; it included all or part of present day Slaughter Road east to US highway 290 southeast; present day Farm Road 592 southwest; old Waxahachie Cemetery off FM 1960 southwest; and much older Rancho de la Luna land including parts of today's Farmers Branch and Grapevine neighborhoods southward beyond Loop 610/I-35Wautions zone into Arlington Heights proper where they began building housing sets which are still visible remnant buildings that are evidence Post office services began here before 1906 when mail service transferred SW from Ft Worth sitting atop an old Mafiosi home until 1907 when new post office moved NE from Ft Worth onto newly built limestone foundation at corner NW corner 3rd Ave & Elm St after fire destroyed existing house next door about 1909 Oak Lawn Rd between Walnut Creek Rd & Elmhurst Rd * As development around town increased so did prices for land just northeast/southwest side Waco Street
