The history of the Texas Army National Guard is fraught with controversy and contradiction. Like so many things in Texas, this story begins with a fight. In 1836, an effort was made to create a state militia and arm it for war against Mexico. The Mexican War had already killed more than 200,000 Texans and left the country in need of a new military leadership. The first unit raised for the state militia was called the 2nd Battalion of Rangers under the command of General Antonio López de Santa Anna. However, by 1840, only six riflemen were left in Austin to man the battalion. This lack of manpower led to problems; units could not be dispatched on field missions without orders from their commanders. In 1845, Lt.-Gen.(later Maj.-Gen.) José Ortiz ordered all volunteer companies into federal service as part of American intervention in Mexico after Mexican forces sacked Austin and burned down most of the city center on March 20th. Only one company (the 1st Battalion) responded from Pearland; its commander resigned after finding out his battalion would not participate in what he saw as an illegal operation by Ulysses S Grant's army It wasn't until October 1860 that another group of volunteers joined up from Pearland: two Companies A and B from Fort Bend County respectively These companies would become known as "The Lone Rangers" because they never fought together again (A separated briefly due to financial difficulties before rejoining B later). In 1861 both Companies A and B withdrew from service due to their commander's refusal to cross border into Canada while still wearing American uniforms; instead they took up arms against Confederate forces at refuges near San Jacinto/Brazos River

Pearland is a city in Harris County, Texas, United States. The population was 134,786 at the 2010 census. Pearland is the county seat of Harris County and home to the largest concentration of Vietnamese Americans in the United States. The first Europeans to visit what is now Pearland were French traders who landed there in 1691. The name "Pearland" was given by Captain John Denton on July 3, 1821 when he discovered an area including present-day Pearland that had been claimed by his predecessor as commander of Fort Worth forces. A post office called "Denton's Ferry" was established at this location on March 12, 1825, and remained in operation until it was discontinued on May 1, 1857. In 1836, Major James Fenton erected a fortification known as Fort Fenton near what is now downtown Pearland after capturing Saltillo Ranch from Mexican forces during the Texan annexation of Mexico. By 1840, Fort Fenton had become one of three military posts located along the Trinity River (the others were San Jacinto and Laredo) withinFort Worth limits; it became an effective garrison against Comanche raiders and Indian uprisings across central Texas during this time period. During Reconstruction following America'sReconstruction Era (1865-1877), many African American men worked for local businesses and farms in what is now downtown Pearland or surrounding counties despite legal obstacles faced by their white counterparts. Many freedmen applied for naturalization papers here under terms set forth in the 1865 Freedmen's Bureau Act which granted them civil rights although most did not receive formal documentation until later years when they finally received citizenship status through various means such as marriage to a white person or adoption by a white parent. In 1870s several major businesses including JONES & SNIDER Custom House built brick buildings on Main Street between Third and Fourth Streets which remain extant today as part of downtown Pearland's historic district designation; these include: HUGHES & CO., grocery store; UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS BARNES MARTIN MECHANICAL COMPANY - carpenter shop; WILLIAMS FARMS - hay feeder/marketing barn; PEARLAND STEAMSHIP COOPERATIVE - steamship terminal; ELLIS HOTEL - hotel complex The first oil well drilled in Texas within spitting distance of modern day Pearland occurred near present day Springdale while still located within Fort Worth proper but due to lack of resources available nearby Houston quickly eclipsed Terminal Oil Field production with its early 1920s discovery phase resulting mainly from sour gas production rather than oil being produced from

Pearland is a city in Brazoria County, Texas, United States. The population was 26,571 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Brazoria County. Pearland was founded in 1881 by John Sibley and named for him. It was originally a small farming town before becoming a major manufacturing center in the mid-20th century with its production of cotton goods, tires, and other industrial products. In recent years, Pearland has become known as an important bedroom community for Austin. The first people to inhabit what is now Pearland were Native American traders who traveled through the area on their way to trade with Spanish explorers and settlers in New Mexico. By 1800, pear trees were being grown around this area by local farmers and ranchers because of the quality of the fruit they produced. In 1881 John Sibley established himself as a farmer in what is now Pearland after purchasing land from some Indians he met on his travels earlier that year. He named his new town after himself – Sibley City – but it quickly became known as one of Brazoria County's most important agricultural towns due to its location along the Trinity River near future Austin landmarks like The University of Texas (UT) Campus and Interstate 35 Frontage Road. Sibley City was home to about 100 residents at its peak during the early 20th century; however, it soon became famous throughout Brazoria County for its production of cotton goods such as suitcases and bedspreads popular among Texans during this time period thanks to its proximity to farms that grew these crops. In fact, many Texans considered Sibley City "the Mecca"of this type of industry due to its high quality standards and consistent output over time despite difficult environmental conditions around this time period including floods which destroyed many homes in 1905 and 1913 combined with World War I disruptions which led to decreased demand for materials used in making textiles/cotton products statewide). As Cottonopolis went down (a term often used referring backto those days when Cottonopolis functioned more like an international market place), so did Sibley City's reputation within Brasoria County until today where only occasional references are made about that particular sector within local news stories or online articles without any further elaboration or historical context whatsoever! In recent decades though, Pearland has experienced rapid growth thanks largely to two factors: First off annexed by Austin in 2005 following annexation disputes between Brazoria County authorities over development plans for adjacent downtown areas; second off rapid suburbanization within nearby Houston - once thought primarily responsible for driving away jobs from our city - resulting in increased availability of housing near Travis Air Force Base & Baylor University giving rise not justto job postings but also home buying opportunities across our city limits! Over 2 dozen businesses have been opened up since 2005 alone including several restaurants & cafes along I-35W & US 60 WFB while another dozen+ properties have been leased or sold since then leaving just under 50 acres vacant within our borders - all wonderful examples of how citizens embraced change & opportunity when faced with growing urban expansion eastward!

The first store in Pearland was built on the site of the present day First Baptist Church. When the United States acquired Texas from Mexico in 1845, Pearland became part of the new Mexican state of Texas. The town experienced growth during its early years, but soon faced competition from more populous Texan towns such as Dallas and Houston. In 1865, when General Sam Houston became president of the United States, he ordered all American forces out of Texas except for a contingent assigned to protect Fort Gibson against Indian attack. As a result of this order, many Texans moved to Kansas or Missouri to escape military service. By 1870, only a handful of people remained in Pearland. But despite these challenges, local businesses continued to thrive and pear farmers enjoyed good crops until around World War II when they began to experience difficult times due to droughts and increased competition from other industry sectors
