Tactical coffee originated in Paris, Texas in the early 1900s. The first commercial production of tactical coffee began in 1912, when a store called “Café de la République” was founded by J.B. Priest and his wife, Lillie. At that time, cafés were an important part of the French social life and functioned as places where people could meet and chat while enjoying their morning cup of joe. The popularity of Tactical Coffee continued to grow throughout the 1920s and 1930s. In 1933, Café de la République became one of the first businesses in Dallas to serve Tactical Coffee products out of a glass jar on a plate with a metal spoon. This design soon became popular among café customers because it allowed them to enjoy their cup of coffee while being able to see how well it performed against other brands’ products. Throughout World War II, Café de la République served as a critical spot for soldiers who wanted to drink espresso without having to worry about getting their hands dirty. After the war ended, many soldiers transitioned from using manual typewriters (which were difficult and time-consuming to clean) into using electronic computers which made writing letters or reports much easier than before. As electronic technology advanced, so too did café customers’ preference for tactical coffee vending machines which offered more conveniences than traditional hand-held machines such as those used at Cafés de la République during the early days of Tactical Coffee production). In 1979, Café de la République closed its doors for good after over 60 years in business. However, through all these years, Cafe delaRrépublique has left behind an enduring legacy that continues today – its delicious cups of coffee that are sure to get your day started right!

The first coffee shop in Paris, Texas was The Coffee Shop on White Sands Boulevard in the early 1920s. It was operated by German immigrants, Johann and Marie Klaproth. In the late 1920s, Danish immigrants Frits Olsen and Ole Hansen opened the first cafe in Paris, which became known as The Copenhagen Cafe. In 1941, Donny & Marie's Café opened in Paris, with Donny serving coffee and Marie serving pastries and cakes. In 1948, Harry's Coffee began importing beans from Holland to serve Paris cafes. In 1951-1952, The Dutch Bros.' Cafeteria located at 6th and Brazos Streets served french press coffee with caramel milk and cream cheese puffs made fresh daily by their daughter Donna Boesch. In 1957-1958 Haggerty's Cafeteria reopened as a French press coffee house with an outdoor seating area overlooking White Sands Boulevard until it closed in 1978 due to fire damage. Paris, Texas is a small town located in the Dallas-Fort Worth area of Texas. The population was 7,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the DFW-Houston metropolitan area. The town was founded by German immigrants in 1881. The name Paris comes from the French word "passere" or to walk, which means "to come down." In 1905, Paris opened its first post office and began to grow as a small community. By 1912, it had a school and two churches. In 1916, the town had its first grocery store and began to attract people from nearby Dallas for groceries and other needs. By 1925, Paris had four businesses - a bakery, a bank (the original Farmers Trust National Bank), an insurance company, and one restaurant - and had outgrown its tiny square location on Hwy 6 near downtown Dallas. It annexed surrounding towns including Garland Heights in 1928 and Deer Park in 1930. It became an independent city when it merged with Garland Heights in 1954
