The Paris, Texas Air National Guard stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord has a rich air force history dating back to World War II. The unit was activated on September 8, 1942 and served in the Pacific Theater of Operations during the war. As part of Operation Overlord, the P-38 Lightning fighter squadron was activated at Joint Base Lewis-McChord on October 1st and flew combat missions over San Francisco and other points in California. In 1945, the P-51 Mustang squadron was established and flew operations against Japan. On November 12th, 1945 the last P-51 Mustang squadron operated from RAF Mildenhall in England ended their combat tour with flying off for home. The planes were stored until 1946 when they were sent to Joint Base Lewis-McChord where they remain to this day as museum pieces. In 1947, theParis Air National guard detachment moved to Pyrenees Airport which is now known as Lajes Airport. This detachment trained new pilots for the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) during 1948–49 season before being assigned to fly Fairchild Republic Aermacchi M580s into action in Korea during 1950. It’s here that we first heard about France’s participation in World War II – one of America’s most significant allies during that conflict. French pilots had voluntarily volunteered their services while stationed at Okinawa after Japan surrendered on August 9th 1945; these aircraft were used by both American forces and Japanese units fighting along Allied lines throughout Asia until 1951 when all Japanese forces surrendered unconditionally ending World War II! With hostilities having come to an end, many of these planes returned home with their countriesmen but some remained operational through 1952 when USAF duty ended at Lajes Airport again for a time before being reassigned once more to US Army Air Forces Europe (USAAF EAF) in 1953 as part of Operation Neptune Spear airstrikes against North Vietnam from bases located at Incirlik AFB near Ankara/Ankara). Withdrawing its assets from South Vietnam following that campaign it was hangar space and resources available once more for French Aerospace Force (FAF) Mirage 2000 fighter bombers operating out of Diego Garcia Island off Arabia then becoming permanently attached to FAF effective January 1st 1956 upon activation! This deployment marked a turning point within FAF as Mirages began battle testing against jet fighters resulting in Night Stalker upgrades incorporating Sparrow missile pods which continued into service until 1990! Paris, Texas is a small town located in the Houston metropolitan area. The population was 7,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pasadena-Houston Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded by Frenchman Antoine de Saint-Just in 1836 as a hunting and trading post on an old Indian trail leading from San Antonio to Louisiana. In 1851, it became the terminus for a wagon road connecting Austin and Corpus Christi. The first store in Paris opened in 1857 and soon afterward began to lease land for growth. In 1868, two brothers, John Riddle and J.C. Hodge, started a sawmill on what is now French Road just east of City Lake. They built three houses around the mill and sold flour and lumber to farmers surrounding Paris until 1914 when they closed down due to lack of customers; their mill still stands today (although it has been converted into use as a home). In 1912, Mayor James Dickey dedicated Paris Municipal Airport which served the community until its closure in 1984 when Reagan National Airport replaced it. The airport's single runway remains active today as Paris Regional Airport (IATA: PEX). On November 3rd, 1938 Hurricane Claudette swept through Paris with winds up to 175 mph (280 KM/h) making landfall near Crosbyville northeast of Dallas; damage was extensive with over 50 homes destroyed or damaged both physically and metaphorically including most of downtown Paris which lay completely exposed to storm surge water flooding levels that reached 30 feet (9 m) within minutes after landfall! It took many days before authorities could assess all damage - one account reports "We found nothing but wreckage... everything had been flattened." At least $147 million worth of property damage was done with some areas particularly hard hit such as downtown which lost more than half its total value according to research conducted by Texas A&M University Press in 2009 - making it one of America's worst natural disasters ever!
