The National Guard of Texas was organized on November 15, 1907. The first unit to be activated and serve in the state was Company C, 3rd Battalion, Texas Rangers. The regiment was redesignated as the 4th Regiment, National Guard on May 1, 1912. In 1940, the regiment became a battalion and was designated Company A. In 1951, it became a brigade and was redesignated Brigade A-2 on October 1st of that year. On June 11th 1957 the brigade became an army division and Division B-5 on march 7th 1959 which made it Headquarters and Headquarters Troop of the Army National Guard's 5th Infantry Division located in Pampa for recruiting purposes only until September 1966 when it again became an army division headquartered at San Antonio until July 1968 when it relocated to Fort Sam Houston Museum where it remains today as museum detachment No. 9 (National guard)

On December 15, 1941, the United States entered World War II and activated the National Guard. The Texas National Guard was one of the first units to be mobilized and soon there were orders for everyone in Pampa to contribute. Within a few weeks, there were squads and companies available to help with all manner of tasks from guarding military convoys to helping with the mobilization process. The war continued on for months, and as it did so, more troops came down from Texas to join the fight. In November 1942, Pampa became one of only a few communities in Texas that received an order from General Douglas MacArthur ordering all men over 18 years old in town to register with the military or face punishment. As war raged on, many people turned their homes into air-raid shelters – some even had their roofs built in – but just as often members of the local National Guard found themselves called out into action when things got rough. In 1945, when Japan finally surrendered after several years of fighting, Pampa’s citizens celebrated by setting up a large outdoor refreshment stand at City Hall Square. Today, through patriotic service deployments and community events like Armed Forces Day Parade and Veterans Day Celebration (both held annually), the Pampa-based National Guard has helped keep our local community safe since 1941.

The town's economy is based largely on agriculture, with a focus on raising Hereford and Angus cows as well as haymaking and pigs.
The United States National Guard has a rich history of giving back to society. From its early days as an arm of the government, through the years when national guard units served in World War II and the Korean War, to today’s role in homeland security, the National Guard has shown itself to be a committed and positive force in American life. From its inception, the National Guard was intended as a reserve force that could be called into action at any time for purposes such as militia duty or disaster relief. This intent was reiterated by President George Washington during his inaugural address: “There is no Militia without Me!” The first modern unit raised by Congress under this definition was Company K of the 1st Rhode Island Regiment. One of the earliest units activated for service in World War I were two companies from New York City’s 11th Infantry Reserve Infantry Regiment (later redesignated 2nd Battalion Troop D) which joined up with other Patriot outfits on April 14, 1917. In 1917-1918, more than 3200 men from across America served in various military campaigns including World War I and World War II. AfterWorld War I Armistice ended hostilities between America and Great Britain, many soldiers who had fought on both sides decided they would like to continue their patriotic service within their own country rather than returning home again after some time away from fighting. As a result of these decisions, there were calls for additional National Guard units to be raised specifically for service in America’s new Cold War world order. On July 15th 1920 President James Mosely signed legislation creating 2nd Brigade Combat Team (later redesignated 506th Infantry Brigade Combat Team) out of elements of five state Guards regiments plus one battalion from Kansas Army National Guard; this brigade became operational on October 10th 1921 at Fort Leavenworth Kansas Territory composed entirely of Guardsmen being organized at once instead of taking turns activation camp-and-deployment drill which then took two weeks-. The first combat mission during World War II defense against Japanese attack occurred when Company A – 9th Armored Cavalry Regiment responded to an air raid over Omaha Beach on June 8 1942; subsequently during Operation Neptune's Spear (July 1944), Company B — 9th Armored Cavalry Regiment helped suppress enemy forces inside Manila Bay following Japan's landings there
The National Guard was activated on September 24, 1790 as part of the Continental Army. It served as a Militia until 1792 when it became an infantry regiment. The National Guard Infantry Regiment fought in the American Revolution and the War of 1812. In 1821, the regiment was redesignated as the 1st U.S. Infantry Regiment and served in Mexican home for over 50 years before being disbanded in 1872.
Pampa, Texas is a small town in Gregg County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,885 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Amarillo–Edinburg–Santa Fe metropolitan area. The Pampa post office opened on January 15, 1885. At that time it was situated on the east side of what is now Pampa Elementary School Road. The first settler in what would become Pampa was Frank Wimmer who arrived in 1875 from Illinois. In 1883, Jens Jensen established a farmstead about south of present-day Pampa and called it "Ender's Grove." In 1915, Don Denton founded the Denton Dairy company which grew to be one of the largest dairy producers in Texas. From 1921 to 1951 Pampa had its own high school (now Pampa Elementary), which became known as "Pammie High." A new high school building was completed in 1957 and served as both schools until 1992 when they were merged into Amarillo Unified School District #2's current facility located north of town off FM 519/Upper Arlington Rd.. The Post Office closed on December 31st 2002 due to low usage and consolidation within DPSD; however, mail continued to be delivered by truck until 2003 when USPS discontinued all operations statewide effective January 1st 2004 due to budget cutsbacks within DPSD. Pampa, Texas is located in the U.S. state of Texas and is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The city was founded in 1881 by people from Iowa and named for Francisco Pacheco, a Mexican landowner who donated land to the town.
