The first post office opened in 1868 and was called "New Hope". The name changed to "Orange" in 1892 when it became part of the Dallas-Ft Worth metropolitan area. According to the 2010 census, 74% of all households were made up of individuals and 21% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.12
