Orange, Texas is a town in Vernon County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,878 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The name "Orange" comes from Spanish meaning "the orange tree." The first settlers in Orange were Mexican immigrants who came overland through Central Texas in 1835. In 1846, General Sam Houston and his army invaded Mexico and captured Tejas (modern-day Tamaulipas), which made Orange the new capital of what was then called Alamo Parish. In 1848, following Texan independence from Mexico, Orange became an independent republic governed by a democratically elected government with three branches: a Senate; a House of Representatives; and a Governor. However, on January 6th of that year Santa Anna's forces attacked the republic's capital while its president was attending church services at the alcalde's house and took it without battle or bloodshed. On July 12th 1865, American general John Fayette Kilpatrick drove Santa Anna out of Austin with little combat but great destruction as part of Ulysses S. Grant's Overland Campaign against Mexican forces under Antonio López de Santa Anna. At least 2/3rds of Orange also lost their homes during this campaign including most of its citizens who had to flee to Fort Worth due to skirmishes between Americans and Mexicans along IH 10 near present day Grapevine Rancho Seco Road (US 287). Following Mexican independence there were no more military engagements between Americans and Mexicans so much as business transactions took place until Anglo-American settlement started in 1872 when James Hogg appointed J P Morgan as real estate agent for Orange County - one of several such appointments throughout west Texas during that era given rise to cowboy mythology about various pioneer families such as Hogg & Murdoch etc.). After Reconstruction ended in 1886 following Ulysses S Grant’s failed attempt to reintegrate Confederate soldiers into society across southern America under terms known as “ Reconstructionism” many Texans wanted their own version o rangement o f things which led directly to prohibition laws being passed throughout Lone Star State starting with passage by state legislator Waddell Coleman on February 17th 1889 outlawing manufacture & sale within 1 mile radius o f any dry goods store not conducted regularly by an ordained Baptist minister (& other similar measures) soon followed by passage by state assembly member Hardin Reeves on March 10th 1890 making possession or use thereof punishable by up $5 per item or imprisonment for up 5 days). This led rapidly to organized crime taking hold particularly among German Texans working downtown along Eastex Street especially around corner streets leading northwest & southeast towards McKinney Avenue before finally expanding statewide with numerous speakeasy Boulevard bars opening throughout city limits ostensibly catering primarilyto socially displaced GENTS from less privileged backgrounds like Italians etc.) . Thousands upon thousands had become engaged in criminal activity just prior to1920 !! This paper will now focus specifically on two businesses located within walking distance each other in what has been affectionately called "The heart of old OC" --- The Cannonball Saloon at 9 Eastex Street (originally Robert Epps' Western Union office) where Nino Domenici began serving drinks since 1902 after moving from San Francisco; and The Bluegrass Guitar Shop at 4 South Philbrook Avenue established in 1909 by Cyrus McCormick & Company druggist/musician William Cooty Sr.. Both businesses have continued operations unchanged well into the 21st century (& beyond!). Although they are no longer open for business they remain iconic fixtures within Old OC!

In 1836, Orange was renamed Fort Worth after General Zachary Taylor’s army seized control of Texas from Mexican forces. Fort Worth served as a military base and eventually became known as one of America’s most prosperous cities. The city’s growth continued into the 20th century, and it reached its peak during World War II when nearly 150 businesses were located in downtown Fort Worth. The first English settlers in Orange County were George Washington and his son John Adams. The area was part of the Mexican land grant known as Rancho San Marcos to José de León. In 1836, the United States acquired title to Rancho San Marcos from Mexico and founded a military post there called Fort Worth. In 1839, General Antonio López de Santa Anna surrendered Texas to the United States after the Texan Revolution. As a result, most of what is now Orange County belonged to Mexico until it was ceded back in 1846 to the United States as part of the Compromise of 1850. After Texas won its independence from Mexico in 1865, American citizens began moving into Orange County. A cotton gin was built near where present-day downtown Houston is today in 1871, and development gradually expanded until World War II when much ofOrange County became an unincorporated community within Harrisburg Township because military bases were established there (Fort Sam Houston & Fort Whitney). Houston’s growth led to increased commuter traffic on I-10 through much of southern Orange County and prompted officials in 1961 to create Interstate 10 east of Houston along present day US 290; this created a new county seat for all but one block around that city center beltway: New Braunfels. Today's Convention Center district forms most of that original city center beltway without any annexation by Houston
