It is located in southeastern Green County and borders Irving to the east and Plano to the north. North Richland Hills formed from part of Garland County when it was annexed by Dallas in 1912. The name "Richland" originated with landowner John Richardson's ranch extending along what is now Elmendorf Road and Valley View Drive within the city limits ofDallas. In 1875, he divided his property into two tracts: one lying east of US 75 (now I-20) and stretching to present day Deer Park Boulevard; while the other lay northwest of US 75 between Elmendorf Road (now Loop 610) and Springdale Boulevard (now Westpark Boulevard). In 1912, Dallas annexed portions of Garland County including North Richland Hills as part of its annexation plan for that county. At that time, Garland County had a total population of 149,873 people with a land area of . North Richland Hills grew rapidly during World War II due to its location near DFW Airport and its role as a military munitions manufacturing center. The post-World War II growth slowed during the late 1960s and early 1970s as many factories closed down or were converted into apartments or office complexes. However, economic growth resumed in recent years as North Richland Hills became home to several high-tech companies such as Dell Inc., AMD/ATI Technologies Inc., Intel Corporation, Motorola Solutions Laboratories Inc., Infosys Limited among others. North Richland Hills has a population of over 120,000 people and covers an area of over 107 square miles. The original town site consisted of just a few homes and businesses. The first post office opened in 1876, and within a few years, there were several small businesses in the town including groceries, clothing stores, barbershops, diners and more. The oil boom started to take off in north Texas in the 1920s; at this time, North Richland Hills saw an increase in development as families eagerly took advantage of new opportunities to make money. By 1932, there were more than 30 businesses operating within the boundaries of North Richland Hills proper. Many residents naturalized themselves during this time because they felt that American citizenship offered them many rights and opportunities that European citizens did not enjoy. After World War II ended with Japan's surrender on September 2nd 1945, things changed for most Japanese Americans living in America who were still trying to process what had happened (Fukushima). As they began their return process through U.S.-based channels such as mail boxes or travel documents which required various forms from all across America - some even traveled out west specifically to visit family members - some found their way into North Richland Hills as well (Boyd). These individuals managed to purchase homes or land near where they lived until finally going "off grid" around 1980 when all communication went down for about eight months due to a power outage caused by lightning strike
