North Richland Hills is a city in Johnson County, Texas, United States. The population was 37,912 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. North Richland Hills was founded in 1902 by postal workers as a small town on the edge of what is now Austin. The name originated from its location near the hills that make up the city today. The first post office in North Richland Hills was established in 1902 and served residents of Hockaday and Bakewell townships. In 1907, North Richland Hills became an independent municipality and added Bakewell Township to its borders. On July 1, 1912, South Lamar (later Arlington) incorporated as a separate municipality east of Dallas and north of Flower Mound with a population of 14,043; this merger formed Dallas County. In 1914, North Richland Hills annexed much of Addison County including Garland and Richardson Creek villages to become its second largest city with a population exceeding 50,000 for the first time ever according to records kept by the Texas Department of Public Information. On November 12th 1920 voters approved annexation petitions submitted by both cities which were accepted without debate or objection by the county commissioners who had been appointed to handle annexation paperwork at that time due to lack of available staff during World War I-era prohibitionism throughout most Texan counties.(1) For some years after 1920 until electric streetlights were installed in all Dallas municipal precincts beginning on October 15th 1929 downtown business districts such as Commerce Street between Greenville Road (now US Highway 183) and Hearst Avenue experienced continuous night life thanks mainly to bootlegging operations taking place along Houston Street across from Sam Rayburn House during Prohibition days.(2) On January 1st 1927 TXDPI destroyed all but three pages from their original annexation papers which are still held captive by museum bureaucrats inside their vault on Deming Drive south side OF Lakewoodanyon Shopping Center west side OF Interstate 10). All 100 acres or so within present day Richardson Creek Village (southwest border gate lot 5 off FM 2711), now part of Flower Mound annexed into North Richland Hills on November 12th 1920 just east Of I-10 & West Of White Oak Rd., once belonging To Garland Village boundaries were given away through annexation petitions sponsored & accepted by City Councils back then without any protestation or opposition!(3) This document known as "The Annexation Petition" can be viewed online at:http://www2.txdpi .state .gov/~txdotx/Publications/TDPI_AnnexationPetition_1960-.pdf Upon assuming control over Travis County following Reconstruction following World War II Hood decided that instead he would focus more attention on developing new areas beyond his jurisdiction such as Central Texas rather than continue expanding Travis County’s limits while neglecting East Austin which he considered his natural jurisdiction.(4) After studying maps for many months he made his recommendations to Hood's successor Darrell Kuykendall who implemented them into law on December 6th 1948 with only superficial changes -East Austin continued growing unchecked while Travis County shrank back slightly forming what is today called "Red River Valley".(5) In 1955 Houston developer John Sayers purchased 132 acre piece located just northwest corner White Oak Road And Old Slaughter Road from Republic National Bank for $1 million dollars becoming one of America’s largest landowners outside California.(6)(7)(8)(9)(10) He donated itto Baylor University where they currently use itfor athletics purposes primarily hosting football games during fall semester followed by men’s and women’s basketball preseason tournaments each year since 1960!(11)(12)(13){14}It should also be noted that there has never been any doubt about Baylor University being responsible FOR building most everything within 18 miles radius including Red River Valley Stadium mentioned earlier!(15)} One could go onto say quite a bit about John Sayers' role in development within Red River Valley but this would require another paper focusing largely upon Baylor University itself!
