North Richland Hills was founded in 1907 by farmers who desired to escape the harsh conditions of the Oklahoma Territory. In 1951, North Richland Hills approved annexation into then- neighboring Dallas suburb Richardson after making a financial bid for that community's land deal which fell through because Richardson refused to give up any land for its own development. The city began experiencing growth due to its location near I-20 and Highway 290, which made it easy for businesses and tourists to access both destinations. Because of this, North Richland Hills has become known as a center for technology and professional services as well as an important economic engine for many parts of TX. For example, Googleplex is located within walking distance of many downtown businesses while also being close to major highways such as I-10 and Loop 610 (the latter providing easy access to Dallas).
