Nacogdoches, Texas is a town located in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 1,500 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. Nacogdoches was founded on November 10, 1859 by Captains John Fenton and James Hockaday as Nacogdoches Landing on the Lower Colorado River. On December 28, 1859, the settlement was renamed Nacogdoches after General Sam Houston's victory over Mexico in the Battle of Nacogdoches. The first post office opened in 1860 and was known as Wellsburg until 1861 when it changed its name to Nacogdochese because that is what General Houston called it when he visited in 1864. In 1865, a school was built and named for Mrs. Ainslie Henderson who had donated land to the town site south of where Lubbock now stands. By 1870, there were 4 stores and 30 buildings in Nacogdoches with an estimated population of 100 people; however during prohibition from 1920-1929, only 2 stores remained open although many residents did not follow prohibition because they believed that it would be repealed soon enough In 1930, a new courthouse was built which became operational on October 15th 1930 In 1935 a cotton ginnery/texaco refinery complex replaced an earlier smelter complex off Main Street The present day community began to take form when developer Clint Conley subdivided land near IH-35 about 1 mile east of current town limits in 1984 The development included 524 homes (including 1105 starter homes) along CR-27 from Lone Star Road northeast to FM 620 northwest As more people moved into this area around 2000 primarily due to job growth at nearby Asmedia Chemical Company (now TX chemtech), small businesses around water wells started disappearing as wells were polluted with CSG munitions manufacturing plants adjacent

Nacogdoches, Texas is a small town in the U.S. state of Texas that is located in East Travis County on the banks of the Neches River. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The town began as a post office on July 4, 1881, and became a city on November 3, 1907. The name "Nacogdoches" comes from an Algonquian word meaning "big river." Nacogdoches was platted in 1881 by John J. Neely for James Wylie who had purchased land east of present day Nacogdoches from Andrew Houston Sr., brother of Sam Houston. Wylie named his property after General Tom Ladd who had defeated Mexican forces at San Jacinto in 1847 and took possession of what are now East Travis and West Branch counties in Texas Republic. The first post office here opened on July 4th, 1881 with John J.-J. Neely as Postmaster In 1907 City Council voted to change its name to NacoOGDOCHS after recognizing that it would be more accurate to spell both words 'naco' with one letter (the alphabetic A) and 'goc' with two letters (C). The new name stuck around until 1959 when it was changed back to Nacogdoches again due to confusion over whether or not there should be a comma between naco and goc
Nacogdoches, Texas is located in the Houston-Galveston-Baytown metropolitan area. It was founded on December 6, 1836 by James F. Nacogdoches and his family as an independent town in Gregg County. The town became a county seat on May 7, 1839. On November 5, 1850, Nacogdoches was designated as the capital of Gregg County by the Texas Legislature and it remained that way until January 3, 1907 when Austin arrived and took over as the capital.
