Nacogdoches, Texas is a small town located in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 3,813 at the 2010 census and it is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. It is named after another small Texan town also called Nacogdoches, which was once a stop on the Chisholm Trail. In 1836, General Sam Houston and his army reached Nacogdoches after weeks of travel through what is now Oklahoma Territory. He built his first fort here in 1840 to defend himself from Indian tribes that had been attacking his forces along the Chisholm Trail. A year later, he founded what would become Nacogdoches County in southern Texas as part of an effort to create a centralized government for all of south central Texas. The courthouse in Nacogdoches was completed in 1849 and became one of the most popular tourist destinations in southcentral Texas until it burned down in 1902. In 1865, local businessmen organized a railroad to provide transportation to new markets around Austin and they bought the courthouse property for $1 million dollars ($ today). The current wing was added to the courthouse in 1988 and it remains one of its most popular tourist attractions today.

Nacogdoches is a small town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Arlington–Arlington Heights, IL Metropolitan Statistical Area. Nacogdoches was founded by Scots-Irish settlers in 1829 as a post office called "Cameron." The name means "New Creek" in Gaelic. The first post office in Nacogdoches was established on July 20, 1829, and named for John Cameron (1775-1846), an American Revolutionary War officer and delegate to the Second Continental Congress from Kentucky. In 1830, Cameron's successors moved the post office to what is now Main Street and White Settlement Road. In 1836, the Mexican War caused some business owners to flee their homes and start anew at Caney Fork Landing on the Brazos River. They renamed their community Nacogdoches after General Antonio López de Santa Anna's commandery of Mexico City during that war. Nacogdoches grew rapidly due to its location near several rivers and creeks which made it easy for farmers to get water deliveries and produce crops year-round. By 1840, there were 100 residents living in Nacogdoches proper; by 1860 this had increased to 1,500 people. The railroad arrived in Nacogdochese during this time with plans to bring cotton exports upriver from Galveston Bay but these plans never eventuated because local investors refused to pay for railway rights they did not receive In 1865 Union General Ulysses S Grant ordered his forces into Tarrant County after learning about Confederate troop movements near Fort Worth federal government garrison there Aftermath of battle resulted Confederate general Robert E Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House on April 9 1865 rather than fight against Union Army under Grant instead of giving up his property back home
