Murphy, Texas is a small town located in San Marcos County. The community was founded in 1881 by John Murphy and his family. The town has since grown to include a population of over 2,000 residents. To date, the military has been deployed to Murphy more times than any other community in Texas. The first time the military was deployed to Murphy was in World War II. The regiment that stationed at Murphy for World War II was the 356th Infantry Regiment from Fort Worth, Texas. In 1951, the 357th Infantry Regiment also stationed at Murphy before moving to Fort Bliss in 1962. Since then, all of the commands that have garrisoned troops here have been Army National Guard or United States Air Force units. In 2006, troops from 1-312th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne) were sent here after Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans. They stayed for two weeks before returning home on October 14th 2006. In 2017, soldiers from 3rd Battalion/2nd Air Assault Regiment were sent here after Hurricane Harvey hit Houston and caused extensive damage throughout the city center and beyond. They arrived on November 4th 2017 and remained until May 8th 2018 when they returned home safely

However, entrepreneur Donny Hathaway kept McCabe's Bar-B-Q restaurant open for over 60 years until it closed down in 2004 citing health concerns related to lead paint contamination inside the establishment dating back to when it operated as an unlicensed restaurant with no permits from government officials interested in regulating such behavior withinCritter- Control Products Incorporated). That same year saw another major development for Moran's Millinery store when they acquired adjacent property across Main Street from their original location; this allowed them to expand their inventory even beyond what they could have accommodated at their original space alone and made them one of just twochain stores remaining operating west of Dallas/Fort Worth during that time frame). In 1920, it became a city and has since grown to be one of the largest cities in Texas with a population of more than 300,000 people. The history of Murphy begins with its founding as a small community on Buffalo Bayou by Irish immigrants. In 1907, General James Murphy led an army into Mexico to help overthrow Mexican president Porfirio Diaz and gain independence for Mexico from Spain. He later served as governor of Texas from 1915 to 1917 and again from 1921 to 1923. During his time as governor, he helped develop Murphy County into one of the most important counties in Texas with a population greater than 100,000 people. In 1920, Murphy became a city when it was designated as a municipal district within City Limits Plan No 3 by Mayor J C Whitehead pursuant to Section 5(a) of Article IX (city government). The growth of Murphy during that decade saw additions such as new neighborhoods such as Sunrise Heights and North Park which were established adjacent to existing business districts such as Main Street/Hollywood Boulevard and Western Avenue/Cowboys Hall Road. These developments increased traffic congestion on main streets which limited their use for residential purposes only; however they did create new uses for these streets including restaurants, nightlife venues, commercial corridors and public squares that continue to play an important role today in downtown Murphrey Neighborhoods
Murphy was founded by John Murphy in 1851 as a small farming community. The town grew rapidly during the 1850s and 1860s, thanks to the discovery of oil in nearby Barnett County. By 1870, Murphy had reached its peak population, with over 1,000 residents. However, the town's prosperity came to an abrupt end when natural gas was discovered in nearby Titusville in 1872. This new industry quickly replaced agriculture as the primary source of revenue for Murphy. As resources became more scarce and prices for oil began to rise, Murphy's economy collapsed. In 1882, the state of Texas passed a bill forbidding towns from becoming incorporated without prior approval from the county courthouse president. This decision doomed Murphy as a town, and it gradually declined until it disappeared entirely by 1910.
