Mount Pleasant is a small town located in Travis County, Texas. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. Mount Pleasant was once known as "The Hill" because it was the highest point in the community and its residents were said to be "the wealthiest people in Austin." Today, Mount Pleasant's only businesses are two churches and one garage. The surrounding countryside has been turned into an agricultural preserve that produces corn, soybeans, cotton, and other crops. The first mention of Mount Pleasant dates back to 1836 when James Hogg established a trading post on Beaver Creek near present-day Mount Pleasant. By 1843, Hogg had moved his post to what is now downtown Mount Pleasant. In 1848, General Sam Houston granted land for a school in Mount Pleasant which became the first public school in Austin. Reverend John Blair built Blair School on current day Elm Street in 1850 which served as the primary educational facility for African Americans until 1955 when it was replaced by Springdale Elementary School. In 1865, Fort Bend County was created from parts of Travis and Williamson counties and Mountpleasant became part of that new county. However, by 1870, most of what is now Round Rock had been annexed into Austin so much so that Fort Bend County effectively ceased to exist. In 1919-1920 when MtPleasant voted not to secede from Austin due to concerns about heavy taxation levied by city hall - an act which many Texans view as a form of racism - annexation did occur but again roundabout fashion; most of our present day boundaries were formed during annexations following World War II with MtPleasant remaining withinAustin proper (referred to locally as "the inner ring"). Accordingly today very little remains from either past or present days aside from mountaintop dwellings such as those on Elm Street dating back over 50 years ago while commercial areas have seen significant redevelopment recent incarnations including several high rises currently housing several thousand occupants atop them all overlooking beautiful rolling countryside typical for central TX rural settings

Mount Pleasant was founded in 1871 by James P.McGraw and his brother John McGraw. The town grew rapidly due to the discovery of oil reserves in nearby Tehachapi County, and by the early 1900s, Mount Pleasant had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1907, the town became the Aransas Pass Railway depot and was renamed Fort Worth after Texas’ capital city. In 1930, Fort Worth merged with Dallas to form the Lone Star State. Mount Pleasant continued to grow until its annexation by Arlington in 1950. Today, Mount Pleasant is a small unincorporated community located east of Arlington within Dallas County. The first settlers in what is now Mount Pleasant were farmers who arrived from North Carolina in 1871. By 1875, there were more than 30 families living in Mountpleasant; however, it wasn’t until 1886 that the first post office was established in the town center. The post office was named Aransas Pass after nearby Aransas Pass Creek which led into West Texas on Interstate 20A (now I-10). In 1907, when Fort Worth merged with Dallas to form the Lone Star State, Mountpleasant became part of that city and changed its name to Fort Worth (after Texas’ capital city). The fortifications at this time consisted of just two ordnance stores and a storeroom used for storage purposes only – no buildings stood today outside ofFort Worth proper – all that remain are foundations and walls surrounding an open field which served as parade ground during World War II. As Fort Worth continued to grow throughout World War II thanks to military production quotas set by then-President Franklin D Roosevelt (1922-1945), so too did its economy; businesses such as textile mills closed down throughout much of 1945 but kept producing munitions because they could do so without violating wartime restrictions on exports. Eventually though these plants closed down or were bought out by other companies–most notably TexacoTexacoPhillips Corporation (later ExxonMobil)–the industry that had thrived at Aransas Pass Depot during World War II essentially disappeared along with most aspects of local society following America’s involvement in WWII1 . In 1950 Arlington annexed what is now Mount Pleasant after voting residents approved annexation plans submitted by Arlington Mayor Jock Hargrave2 ; however controversy still exists about how much control over mount pleasant residents actually have today3 . Despite this uncertainty around annexation decisions made during Republication 3 , many people remain proud of their history & culture associated with MtPleasant 4 . Mountp plymouth history begins on April 6th 1861 when James P McGraw came across some oil land near present day Tehachapi City Limits while he was working for his father John McGraw on his ranch west side Of Ft Worth TX4 . He organized a group called “The Texans” together with $1000 worth o woodchucks/cattle/etc6 . On July 8th 1861 company commander Captn Robert E Jackson signed an order authorizing McGraw to lease 2200 acres 7 southwest corner mile marker 9of FM 620 east side Of Ft Worth7 for $5 per acre8 . This area would later become known as “Mount Plymouth”9 !! Company soldiers built homes temporary huts made from logs gathered from along road 10 near present day Patton Rd 11near mile marker 12 west Of Ft WORTH11during winter months12 !
