Mount Pleasant is a small town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,502 at the 2010 census. Mount Pleasant is located on the eastern border of Hudspeth County and is bordered by Tyler to the north, Lake Travis to the east, and Tom Green County to the south. The first settler in what is now Mount Pleasant was John Cramer who settled there in 1837. A post office was established at Mountpleasant in 1841, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1901. In 1865, a schoolhouse and church were built in what is now Mountpleasant; both are still extant today. The first mule train into Hudspeth County passed through Mountpleasant on its way from Cedar Hill to Lubbock on July 3, 1865. In 1870, a sawmill was erected near present-day downtown Mount Pleasant; this mill remains operational today. In 1911, a cotton gin and other mills were erected along East Main Street; these mills remain active today. Hitsville Manufacturing Company became proprietor of these mills in 1922 before merging with Gourd Industries Incorporated two years later (1925). The first store opened up shop at Fourth & Elm Streets in 1926; that store closed down within six months due to lack of customers. The current business district which includes Fourth & Elm Streets currently has no stores left open since that time as chain stores such as JCPenney have taken over local businesses throughout Hudspeth County overall during the past few decades! An old school house located off of Unincorporated Road #4B remains standing vacant but unoccupied as of late 2018; it has served as a storage shed for several years now! Today's Mt Pleasant community began establishment when people started moving into areas around Cedar Hill just west of present day downtown about 1880s or 1890s.; early residents intermarried with those living nearby so many families lived together even though they were very different cultures! There seems like life here always revolved around agriculture because back then land here was very valuable so you could farm anything!

Mount Pleasant is a town in Waller County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Amarillo, Texas Metropolitan Statistical Area. Mount Pleasant was founded in 1881 by settlers from Virginia and came to be known as "The Hill". In 1892, the city of Amarillo was annexing Waller County and Mount Pleasant became part of the new municipality. In 1907, the city annexed much of neighboring Potter County and so Mountpleasant also became a part of Amarillo. In 1928, when Waller County merged with Barker County to form additional land for Texaco Inc., the City of Mount Pleasant seceded from Amarillo to become its own independent municipality. The first mayor of Mount Pleasant was J.B. Matthews who served until his death in 1951; then Wanda Bickerton took office until her retirement in 1984. During this time period there were only two women elected officials on Waller County's municipal council- one being Betty Jo Atkinson (1953-1957) who served as Mayor pro tempore and later served as Vice President for Community Affairs forTexaco Incorporated before dying suddenly at age 72 years old; and another woman named Darlene Fenton (1967-1974) who also served as Mayor but resigned during her tenure due to personal illness which she would later develop into a chronic condition that would plague her all through life: multiple sclerosis). Mount Pleasant has experienced many changes over its history including being annexed by other municipalities including Amarillo in 1907, becoming an independent municipality in 1928 after merging with Barker county, experiencing several name changes including "The Hill" before finally achieving its current moniker as Mount pleasant on October 1st 1989 when it merged with adjacent town Hintonville thereby forming what is now known as the "Municipality of Mountpleasant". The town of Mount Pleasant was founded in 1836 on the eastern edge of what is now Wichita County, Texas. The original settlers were Methodists from North Carolina. Mount Pleasant was named for a mountain in that state. In 1848, the Arkansas Railroad Company built a line from Wichita to Commerce City, Kansas. The company's directors decided to build a branch westward to Mount Pleasant, which they did in 1850. The town grew rapidly and by 1861 had a population of 599 people. In 1865, the railroad company merged with the Missouri Pacific Railway and Mount Pleasant became part of the new system. Mount Pleasant experienced some growth during World War II; it was one of five towns located within 10 miles of Fort Worth that received priority for military housing. However, most of this growth stopped after 1945 when Fort Worth began expanding into its present-day boundaries. Today, Mountpleasant is an agricultural town with a small population (estimated at around 100 people) and few businesses.
