One of the most notable aspects of Mineral Wells' history is its involvement with World War II. After Germany invaded France in 1940, American citizens mobilization began immediately as they prepared for war. Bishop Cotton Young organized a local fundraising drive which raised over $5 million dollars for American military effort overseas. This money allowed American soldiers stationed overseas to purchase items like gasoline and food from local stores before heading off into battle! One company that contributed significantly to this effort was Texaco who built 400 barracks within minutes of mobilization! This housing project not only increased troop morale but also created jobs for local residents during wartime! Another aspect of Miner Wells' WWII history is its relationship with Baylor University-Texas Agricultural Experiment Station (BU-TES). BU-TES operated out of Mineral Wells from 1942 until 1945 when it moved to Austin due to overcrowding at Baylor's physics department facility! In 1949 BU-TES moved back to Mineral Wells after purchasing some land from Texaco! The university has continued operations out of Mineral Wells ever since! Today, Mineral Well's economy is based largely on its ties with oil production as well as other industries such as health care and telecommunications%.
